SB 1249, the CA Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, is two steps away from the governor’s desk and becoming law in the fifth largest economy in the world.
Unfortunately, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, L’Oreal, Unilever, Avon, NARS Cosmetics, Revlon, M.A.C., and Mary Kay Cosmetics are among the companies that are opposing the passage of the law that will save hundreds of thousands of animals from needless torture and death every year.
The companies have hired an army of lobbyists that are currently meeting with every assembly member’s office and lying about what our bill does and what the effects of it will be.
Help Us Help These Poor Innocent Animals! Call Assembly Judiciary Committee Members Now Through June 25th To Let Them Know That Californians Do Not Want Their Cosmetic Products Tested On Animals No Matter Where In The World The Testing Takes Place!
The next Capitol hearing is set for June 26, 2018, at 9:00 am, Room 437. If possible, people are also encouraged to attend the hearing.
Help us NOW by calling each member of the committee urging their support and not to be persuaded by the opposition spin! Tell them to vote yes on SB 1249!

Sir Paul McCartney Among Animal Advocates Who Helped Save Cow’s Life After She Crossed From Bulgaria Into Serbia – World Animal New

It has been a stressful time for Penka, the cow, her distraught owner, and tens of thousands of animal advocates throughout the world who have been fighting to save her life after she accidentally wandered away from the Bulgarian village of Mazarachevo last month, walking out of the EU into Serbia, a non-EU member state.
According to abc.net.au Bulgaria has now agreed to spare five-year-old Penka’s life!
Sir Paul McCartney was among those advocating for Penka to be saved following news that plans were in the works to kill her for crossing European Union borders without the proper paperwork.
“I think it would be really nice to see this pregnant cow given a reprieve. She’s done nothing wrong,” McCartney tweeted to his 3.95 million Twitter followers. “Join us if you agree.”
McCartney then shared a link to a now-closed petition that garnered more than 30 thousand signatures and contributed to the life-saving change of plans.
As per the petition, after Penka was returned to her owner, Ivan Haralampiev, “Bulgarian officials said the animal must be put down because of strict EU rules despite being given a clean bill of health by Serbian vets.”
“We believe that Penka’s case reflects a lack of compassion on the part of EU officialdom for everyday people, such as Penka’s owner, who is absolutely distraught,” the petition continued.
Fortunately, with the help of Paul McCartney and thousands of animal advocates who used their voice for Penka, compassion, ultimately prevailed in this case!

Breaking! After More Than 150 Years, Montreal Bans Horse-Drawn Carriages; New By-Law To Be Enacted On December 31, 2019 – World Animal News

The City of Montreal has announced the adoption of a by-law prohibiting the use of horse-drawn carriages on its territory.
Unfortunately, the new by-law will not come into effect until December 31, 2019.
“The Montreal SPCA has been fighting against the use of horses downtown for nearly 150 years,” attorney Alanna Devine, Director of Animal Advocacy at the Montreal SPCA, which congratulated Mayor Valérie Plante and Projet Montreal for adopting this long-awaited measure, said in a statement. “The end of this industry represents an important victory for our organization and demonstrates just how much our relationship with animals is evolving.”
Carriage horses are often forced to work nine or more hours per day, seven days a week, are subject to potential collisions with vehicles, loud noises that can spook them and also endanger humans in their vicinity, extreme temperatures and years of walking on unnaturally hard surfaces, which often causes lameness.

The phase-out period would allow the City of Montreal to work with horse owners, the Montreal SPCA, and horse rescues and sanctuaries to place all the horses in homes adapted to their needs, where they will be able to live out a peaceful retirement.
“The Montreal SPCA already has a solid network of foster homes and horse rescues and would be more than willing to help with proper placement of the City’s carriage horses, as we have already done for some individuals in the past,” said Elise Desaulniers, Executive Director of the Montreal SPCA. “We hope to have the opportunity to work with the city and rescue groups to place these horses with loving and attentive caretakers.”
By putting an end to this antiquated and inhumane industry, Montreal will be following the lead of several other world-class cities, such as London, Paris, Beijing, and Toronto.
