Petition : Stop animal suffering

It is by coming together that we will be more united with our four-legged friends.

Our hearts suffer from seeing all this complacency and suffering. So, I would like to invite all those who love, who suffer, and who would like to see a significant change and join us to stop the barbarism:

  • That euthanasia is used on animals only at the end their lives
  • That people who abandon animals are severely punished

  • That mistreatment is stopped by stiffer penalties

  • More monitoring in animal shelters

  • It would be advisable that all dogs and cats are declared with Sterilisation obligation

  • No reproduction with a private individual but among breeders only on demand

  • Stop the bullfights….. there are other ways to relax than to see death….

  • Stop vivisection on dogs and monkeys. This is outrageous.

It would be appropriate that the large structures of animal protection groups put an end to the slaughter in countries like Romania, which sterilise all females.

Let us all be responsible, gentlemen of governments, we want you to know that it’s time to stop this!

Petition: No to injecting artificial colouring in animals!

No to injecting artificial colouring in animals!

According to a survey we recently posted, 90% of people were not aware of this practice.

Indeed, many fish: chanda, widows, corydoras, bearded danios and many others suffer being painted by injection in Asia. This is often how they end up blue, green, yellow or red.

Dyed fish can be very lethargic and unhealthy, unlike their normal counterparts. Many suffer from the Lymphocystis virus or kidney failure. They will be more susceptible to bacterial and parasitic problems within the tank due to a lower immune system if they have been injected or dunked to create the artificial colours.

This practice, in addition to a misrepresentation of the product, is also an act of cruelty and mistreatment of animals. They resume their colour gradually (usually they are albino individuals which are easier to colour) and become ill more easily (foreign object in their body: kidney disease, liver …)

It’s up to you to change the situation by not buying these fish, and asking, through this petition that the government stop this practice and sale of these animals on the UK market.

Ohio Gov. Kasich: ‘The Lord’ Doesn’t Want Americans to Oppose Migrant Caravan

Ohio Gov. Kasich: ‘The Lord’ Doesn’t Want Americans to Oppose Migrant Caravan
Anthony Accardi
5-6 minutes

Ohio Gov. John Kasich told CNN Thursday that “the Lord” doesn’t want Americans to build walls and oppose the migrant caravan heading to the United States from Central America.

“We’ve got to start putting ourselves in the shoes of other people,” Kasich told CNN’s Newsroom.

Kasich, the grandson of Catholic immigrants from Eastern Europe who became an Anglican Christian as an adult, said he believes most Americans would welcome the caravan.

We’ve got to start thinking about the consequences that others suffer. And if we have been spared those by the grace of God, let us be appreciative, let us count our blessings, and let us reach out to those who have less. Let’s stop putting up walls around ourselves and not understanding the plight, the trouble, and the problems of others. It is not right. And the Lord doesn’t want it, and our people at their hearts want to reach out to others. Look at what they do in these storms. They go and they rescue people they don’t know. They put them in their homes. They feed them. That’s America. Not all this garbage and this division and yelling and screaming and hatred on all sides.”

But not all Christians agree with the governor’s take on biblical truth.

Kelly Kullberg, author of Finding God at Harvard.

Kelly Kullberg, a Christian Ohioan who is editor and co-author of Finding God at Harvard, leads the new American Association of Evangelicals and has served as a missionary in Guatemala and El Salvador. She said the Bible has a lot to say about nations, but nowhere does it teach nations to open their borders to mass migration.

“While I appreciate Gov. Kasich’s Christian faith and compassion, I would encourage him to reconsider the nature of love and the balanced wisdom of Scripture,” Kullberg told The Ohio Star. “The Bible does not teach open borders, but wise welcome.”

Kullberg said the Bible has four words for “foreigner” in Hebrew. One word indicates those who come lawfully as blessings; the word really means “converts,” like Ruth and Rahab. These foreigners are to be embraced as citizens.

Two other Hebrew words indicate temporary visitors or guest workers, to be treated kindly while passing through.

A fourth word indicates a danger, someone who does not come lawfully to assimilate and bless a nation, and is not to be welcomed. (See Dr. James Hoffmeier’s classic book, The Immigration Crisis).

“Rarely do folks quoting the Bible on immigration ever mention that Nehemiah and Ezra led their nation in the rebuilding of its faith, culture and walls,” Kullberg said. “Or that, in Isaiah 1, God considers it a curse and tragedy when a nation is overrun by foreign influence.”

DHS and ICE record many thousands of crimes against American citizens by people here illegally. And Kullberg believes God is grieved when a nation doesn’t protect its citizens, while remaining open to those who come lawfully as blessings.

“We’re to be stewards and gardeners, using wisdom to grow a beautiful culture,” she said.

Kullberg said she noticed something else about the caravan that Kasich apparently didn’t.

“I don’t agree with the governor that people, such as the young and strong men in these ‘caravans,’ should flee their home nations,” she said. “I love Guatemala and worked there as a missionary with widows and children. When sons leave, they leave behind vulnerable grandparents, women and children. What if we and they put creative effort, wisdom and the curious money behind these marches, into the protection and growth of their local villages and cities?”

“That’s what the Bible teaches us to do. The Gospel and its teaching are to uplift every nation,” she added. “That’s why I went with teams of grad students to help build homes, small businesses, a medical clinic and school in Guatemala, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic and Peru.”

Kasich has always been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, both before and after he was elected in 2016. On Wednesday, in an interview with MSNBC, Kasich blamed Trump for the bomb-scare packages that were mailed to 10 prominent Democrats.

Kullberg said she encourages the governor to honor the common sense of Ohioans, and how they voted in 2016.

“I ask him to honor struggling American workers who deserve to not be replaced by cheaper foreign labor,” she said. “He could look into the orchestrated, political nature of much mass migration, who funds it and why.”

She said Kasich would also do well to “brush up on the concept of sovereign nations – and the Book of Nehemiah.”

“The whole counsel of Scripture is the highest love for human beings, and the highest good for cultures and nations.”

Chemically-treated fiber in processed foods linked to liver cancer: study

Chemical Free Life

Scientists discovered an unexpected consequence during their study of what happens when industrialized fiber that has been chemically-treated is added to highly processed foods: it triggered liver cancer in the test subjects.

Adding chemically-treated ‘refined’ fiber to highly processed foods is something a recent FDA rule change has effectively encouraged processed food manufacturers to do.  The scientists argue that marketing of this chemically-treated refined fiber-fortified processed food as “health-promoting” is ill-conceived and should be reconsidered.

More studies on this chemically-treated fiber injected into processed foods are needed. In the meantime, it might be wise to remember that while eating whole foods that are naturally rich in fiber has been shown to have health benefits, eating processed foods containing industrialized (chemically-treated) fiber may be anything but healthy.

Fund Meant to Protect Elections May Be Too Little, Too Late

The Election Assistance Commission, the government agency charged with distributing federal funds to support elections, released a report Tuesday detailing how each state plans to spend a total of $380 million in grants allocated to improve and secure their election systems.

But even as intelligence officials warn of foreign interference in the midterm election, much of the money is not expected to be spent before Election Day. The EAC expects states to spend their allotted money within two to three years and gives them until 2023 to finish spending it.

Election experts have expressed skepticism that the money will be enough to modernize election equipment and secure it against state-sponsored cyber threats.

“Nationally, $380 million sounds like a huge amount of money, but in the context of what the election officials are needing to defend, replace…

Reports of Voter Intimidation at Polling Places in Texas

Tempers are flaring during early voting in Dallas County, Texas, and reports of voter intimidation are on the rise. The county’s nonpartisan election administrator said that the harassment — including name-calling and interrogating voters waiting in line — is the worst she’s seen in decades.

“I’ve been here for 30 years, and this harassment that’s going on, I haven’t ever seen the likes of this,” said Toni Pippins-Poole, the county’s election director. “I’ve seen some other things, props being used and whatnot, but nothing like this type of mentality or aggressiveness or demeaning type of actions.”

At the Lakeside Activity Center in Mesquite, Texas, election administrators received complaints of a partisan poll watcher looking over voter’s shoulders as they cast their ballots and questioning voters on their politics. The person was later escorted out by Mesquite Police Department…

Canada Just Took A Vital Step Forward In Banning The Captivity of Whales And Dolphins.

seavoicenews.com
by Alex Larson →

Finally after a three year fight with conservative parties, the Canadian bill “Ending the Captivity of Whales an Dolphin Act” has made its way through Canada’s Senate and onto the House of Commons.

Bill S-203 is a huge step forward for opponents of whale and dolphin captivity as it would ban all captivity across Canada.

Currently there are two current facilities in Canada that harbor the marine mammals, Marineland in Niagra Falls and Vancouver Aquarium. Vancouver Aquarium currently has one Pacific white-sided dolphin named Helen remains at the aquarium. Marineland currently is home to multiple species including the largest beluga whale “collection” in the world.

Now, if Bill S-204 is able to be passed through the House of Commons, both aquariums will not be able to continue their whale and dolphin programs. Unfortunately for the mammals currently calling the aquariums home will, they will not be able to return back to the sea as they have lived their whole life in tanks for the purpose of human entertainment. Where the bill will really make a difference is ensuring that no wild dolphin or whale in the future will be caught to replace or fill a tank.

Before the vote took place, the Senate heard arguments from Vancouver Aquarium whom claim that keeping whales and dolphins captive is beneficial for research and educational purposes. Independent Sen. Mary Jane Callum, a supporter of the bill, said, “If scientists are truly interested in observing and understanding the actions and behaviours of these animals, they would be best suited doing this in the wild, where they are able to exist freely and without constraint.”

Petition · End Happy The Elephant’s 10 Years of Solitary Confinement · Change.org

Joann Burrows started this petition to Director of the Bronx Zoo James J. Breheny and 1 other

The Bronx Zoo has been given the shameful title of the 5th worst zoo for elephants in the country. The New York Times calls Happy the Bronx Zoo’s loneliest elephant. That’s because this highly intelligent and social being is one of the only zoo elephants in the entire United States who is being held alone. And it looks like her living conditions won’t change anytime soon unless we do something about it.

I am asking you, my fellow animal lovers, to encourage the Bronx Zoo Director James J. Breheny to release Happy to a sanctuary where she can be in a more natural setting and live the rest of her life in peace.

New standards regarding the keeping of elephants were recently passed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the accrediting organization for American wildlife institutions. Among their recommendations was that elephants be held in groups of three or more, as they are highly social creatures. Now, zoos around the country are scrambling to comply with the regulations by AZA’s 2016 deadline. Yet, the Bronx Zoo seems steadfast in its opinion that Happy is “happy” with her solitary life. This goes against all scientific data about elephant behavior.

Happy and 6 other elephant calves were captured in the wild from Thailand and brought to the States in 1977. For 25 years, she and her companion, Grumpy, were kept as a pair in the Bronx Zoo. When Grumpy passed away, she was paired with Sammy, who sadly died in 2006. It was then that the zoo decided to end its elephant program, but it didn’t relocate the elephants it currently had.

For 10 years, Happy has been in a sort of solitary confinement, unable to truly interact with the other elephants held at the zoo. This is a social being like a monkey or a dolphin. Elephants thrive in the company of their own kind, where they form multi-generational family groups that remain loyal to one another for life, and the elders pass wisdom down to the younger ones to help them navigate their world.

Happy is likely not at all happy. She has endured a decade of loneliness and deserves the chance to be with others of her kind in a sanctuary. Please join me in telling the Bronx Zoo to release Happy to a sanctuary and let her really have a chance at happiness.

A Wild Dolphin, Stranded, Rescued then Hidden. Where Is Martinha?

Black Cove

#WhereIsMartina That’s the hot topic all over social media right now. Just what has become of the dolphin named Martinha, who was rescued after stranding on a Portugal beach back in 2007?

On October 23rd 2018 a coalition of eminent marine mammal scientists, conservationists and NGOs from around the world announced that they have been trying for years to uncover the truth about where Martinha is, in what conditions she is being held and what is her state of health?

Information taken from the website of Martinha’s Rescue coalition, says that Martinha was estimated to be 6 months old at the time of her stranding. The rescue was conducted by Quiaios Rehabilitation Center for Marine Animals (CRAM-Q)
In the yard behind CRAM-Q, Martinha was held in a small tank of water, which was approximately 7m wide, 13m long and less than 2m deep.

Weed Killer Found in Dozens of Breakfast Cereals: Report

Chemical Free Life

Let’s be clear. It is trace amounts of Round-Up Weed Killer that have been found in the breakfast cereals. And breakfast cereals are processed foods. So this is not new news because as we have previously reported, earlier studies have found pesticides in many types of processed foods sold in U.S. grocery stores.  For those consumers who eat commercially processed foods it is pretty hard to avoid at this point.  Even Big Food gets that: “Most crops grown in fields use some form of pesticides and trace amounts are found in the majority of food we all eat.” -General Mills

The levels uncovered in the breakfast cereals are below what the EPA regards as “safe”. And what level of ingesting pesticides each day is “safe” is still being debated even among scientists.  But given the mounting body of research linking pesticides to myriad of serious health conditions (and the…

Breaking! 200th Bear Arrives At Animals Asia’s Vietnam Sanctuary After Suffering 17 Years Of Bile Farm Misery – World Animal News

By WAN –
October 26, 2018

Animals Asia’s rescue team arrived at their Vietnam Bear Rescue Center on Tuesday, October 23rd after rescuing another female Asiatic black bear from a bile farm in Vietnam’s Cao Bang province.
The rescue marks Animals Asia’s 200th in Vietnam, with the charity having saved a further 418 bears in China.
As a result of the rescue, the bile farm has been shut down and the owners will never again be able to keep bears.
“Rescuing the 200th bear is certainly a milestone for the team, but most importantly, this is another individual rescued, another farm closed, and another step closer to completely eradicating bear bile farming in Vietnam,” said Animals Asia Vietnam Director Tuan Bendixsen in a statement.
The bear, who does not yet have a name, was originally thought to have been around three years old when registered in 2005. However, her owner claims she bought the bear 17 years ago when she was just a cub weighing an estimated 75 pounds. Moon bears can live to be up to 30 years old.
The rescued bear will now begin a 45-day quarantine period during which she will also receive health care and be introduced to a healthy, species-appropriate diet.
After quarantine, she will be moved to a spacious den where she will begin her rehabilitation process and regain her strength. Eventually, when she is physically and mentally ready, she will be introduced to other bears and given access to an outdoor enclosure.
“We’re delighted that this long-suffering bear is finally safe and we can begin to make her well again,” said Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear and Vet Team Director, Heidi Quine. “Overcoming such extreme cruelty and isolation is never easy, but each bear reacts differently. So far, she seems calm but there have also been signs of psychological trauma.”
In August of this year, Animals Asia successfully rescued five bears in South Vietnam, while last month, a female moon bear named Sky was rescued from the mountainous Lao Cai province.
Bears on bile farms in Vietnam suffer from poor nutrition, egregious health and living conditions, and no proper veterinary care. As a result, they often display physical and emotional symptoms such as pacing and hitting their bodies against the bars of cages.
Moon bears are listed as vulnerable by the IUCN, and categorized as endangered by CITES. More than 10,000 are held on bear bile farms in China, and around 800 are also trapped in cages as part of the industry in Vietnam.
Animals Asia began to take on the issue of bear bile farming in Vietnam in 1999, opening its Vietnam Bear Rescue Center (VBRC), the first sanctuary devoted to bears in that country, in 2008.
Bear bile farming has been illegal in Vietnam since 2005 when every bear in captivity was micro-chipped. However, without facilities to hold the over 4,000 bears on farms at the time, those holding the bears were permitted to keep them, and the practice persisted.
However, in 2017, the government signed a landmark partnership agreement with Animals Asia to ensure that every farm is closed and the remaining approximately 800 bears are sent to sanctuaries by 2022.
Today, nearly 200 bears live peaceful lives at Animals Asia’s VBRC, while a further 190 are cared for by the nonprofit organization in China.
No-Name is in bad shape. She’s suffered in silence for many years. She will need extensive care and rehabilitation in the coming weeks and months.

Breaking! Whales & Dolphins In Captivity And Shark Finning Are One Step Closer To Being Banned In Canada – World Animal News

dolphin-1602874_960_720

By WAN –
October 25, 2018

National animal law organization Animal Justice is applauding the Senate for passing Bill S-203, the Ending the Captivity of Whales and Dolphins Act in Canada. If passed, Bill S-203 would outlaw keeping whales and dolphins in tiny concrete tanks for display.
After years of delay and obstruction, the legislation passed late on Tuesday evening in a surprise vote, and will now move to the House of Commons where it will be sponsored by Green leader Elizabeth May. Bill S-203 was originally introduced by Senator Wilfred Moore in December 2015, then sponsored by Senator Murray Sinclair after Senator Moore retired.
Conservative Senate Whip Don Plett repeatedly used procedural delay tactics to slow down the legislation. Fed up with his efforts to block Bill S-203 from reaching a final vote, MPs from all parties joined Animal Justice and Humane Society International at a press conference in June to call for an end to the stalling tactics.
“Canadians understand that whales and dolphins are complex, intelligent beings who deserve far more than a life of boredom and misery in captivity,” said lawyer Camille Labchuk, executive director of Animal Justice in a statement. “That’s why Bill S-203 has attracted such tremendous support from the public as well as politicians from all parties. Animal Justice is calling on the House of Commons to swiftly pass this groundbreaking measure to protect whales and dolphins. Canada has some of the worst animal protection laws in the western world, but banning whale and dolphin captivity would demonstrate international leadership on animals.”
After passing Bill S-203, the Senate also voted in favor of Bill S-238, the Ban on Shark Fin Importation Act, sponsored by Conservative Senator Michael MacDonald. Bill S-238 also has strong support across party lines.
Fast facts about Bill S-203:

Bill S-203 would make it an offence to keep captive, breed, import, or export a whale, dolphin or porpoise. There are exemptions for cetaceans currently in captivity, as well as for rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Bill S-203 was studied for nearly a year by the Fisheries Committee, which heard evidence from countless experts over 17 committee meetings.
Only two Canadian facilities still keep whales and dolphins in captivity—Marineland and the Vancouver Aquarium. There is only one surviving dolphin at the Vancouver Aquarium after a spate of deaths, and the facility has publicly committed not to acquire any further cetaceans.
Over a dozen other jurisdictions around the world have already banned keeping some or all cetaceans in tanks, including Mexico, France, South Carolina, and California. Ontario banned keeping orca whales in 2015, and the Vancouver Park Board voted to ban cetacean display and captivity at the Vancouver Aquarium in 2017. (The ban is being challenged in court.)
The Whale Sanctuary Project plans to build a seaside sanctuary for retired whales and dolphins in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, or Washington.

Boastful American Trophy Hunter, Larysa Switlyk, Fuels Outrage After Photos Surface Of Her With The Animals She Killed In Scotland – World Animal News

By Lauren Lewis –

October 25, 2018

More deplorable photos of a “trophy” hunter unfathomably basking in the glory of killing innocent animals have surfaced, further intensifying the outrage of animal advocates everywhere.
“Beautiful wild goat here on the Island of Islay in Scotland,” Larysa Switlyk, a Florida-born hunter and host of a reality series on Canada’s Wild TV, boasted on social media earlier this month. ‏”Such a fun hunt!! They live on the edge of the cliffs of the island and know how to hide well. We hunted hard for a big one for two days and finally got on this group. Made a perfect 200-yard shot.”
Switlyk, who describes herself as a “professional hunter,” appears to supplement her income by promoting hunting tours such as the one in Scotland by posting photos along with her email address, larysa@detailcompany.com, for those interested in participating in the travesty.

“I’m headed out on a bush plane for my next hunting adventure and will be out of service for two weeks. Nothing better than disconnecting from this social media driven world and connecting back with nature.” Switlyk advised yesterday on her Twitter account in response to the backlash she has been receiving. “Hopefully that will give enough time for all the ignorant people out there sending me death threats to get educated on hunting and conservation.”
Comedian and avid animal advocate Ricky Gervais took to his Facebook page to share his disgust. Gervais is among the thousands of people speaking out in response to the heartless photos and, as always, against “Trophy” Hunting.

While the Scottish Government replied by noting that responsible and appropriate culling of some wild animals, including deer and goats, is not illegal, it has agreed to review the controversial cull laws and consider whether changes to them are required.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon even said on Twitter that it is “Totally understandable why the images from Islay of dead animals being held up as trophies are so upsetting and offensive to people.”
Switlyk also posted photos of other animals she killed during the Scotland hunting trip including another goat and a ram.
How many more animals need to be savagely murdered by sub-humans that take pride in posing next to their dead bodies like “trophies?”

And, she and other Trophy Hunters call animal advocates ignorant?

Rep. Lujan Grisham Supports BLM Decision to Suspend Certain Lease Sales Around Chaco Canyon But Joins APCG to Continue to Call for Permanent Protections

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Lujan Grisham released the following statement to Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) announcement that the agency would suspend the sale of several leases within 10 miles of Chaco Canyon. Rep. Lujan Grisham had previously urged BLM to maintain a 10-mile protection zone around Chaco Canyon and to not include it in any future lease sales.

“Despite this announcement, I remain concerned that if BLM does not take additional precautions, important archeological and cultural resources in the area could be damaged and destroyed by hasty development,” said Rep. Lujan Grisham. “The 10-mile zone around Chaco Canyon should be permanently protected from oil and gas development to safeguard both the archeological sites of ancient civilizations in the area and present-day communities. But we cannot stop there. In order to fully protect Chaco, the BLM must suspend all lease sales including the active March leases until BLM completes a comprehensive cultural resource study in coordination with impacted tribes.”

“While the BLM has removed parcels for the December lease sale near Chaco Canyon, the March 2019 lease-sale is still on the horizon. BLM’s delay is a step in the right direction but we must ensure that there are long-term protections put in place for the Greater Chaco landscape. Our ancestral homelands remain at risk and the All Pueblo Council of Governors continues to call on the administration to protect this UNESCO world heritage site and all cultural sites in the region,” said All Pueblo Council of Governors Chairman Edward Paul Torres.

Humans are Now Pooping Plastic: New pilot study

Chemical Free Life

Oh, no.  This is not good. A new study tested feces samples of participants and discovered that 100% of the participants had microplastics in their samples. Not only are the plastics a potential risk to health, but also the additives in the plastics which as we have reported here numerous times, are endocrine disruptors (synthetic chemicals that disrupt hormones) and have been linked with health conditions like IBD.

People are pooping plastic: Plastic and the endocrine-disrupting additives in the plastic present potential for serious health conditions

Backstory

The world produces about 400 million metric tons of plastic a year, the equivalent of 882 billion pounds, and 80 percent ends up deposited in landfills and other parts of the environment. The smallest particles, the microplastics, range from 10 nanometers — so tiny they are invisible to the human eye — up to to 5 millimeters in diameter. Microplastics…

Eating Organic Food May Prevent Cancer, say scientists

Chemical Free Life

Here is another reason to ditch the highly processed foods at the grocery store and conventional and fast food restaurants:  According to new results from a longitudinal study people who regularly eat organic food may be less likely to develop cancer than those who don’t.

Does eating organic food prevent cancer? Yes, a new study suggests

Study overview

A team of researchers studied 68,946 adult volunteers from France who provided information on how often they ate organic food, drinks and even dietary supplements. Participants were given a score, based on how often they eat organic food ranging from “most of the time” to “never” or “I don’t know.”

Results

During two follow-up appointments, one in 2009 and another in 2016, the researchers then tracked cancer diagnoses, the most prevalent being breast cancer. Other cancers observed included prostate cancer, skin cancer, colorectal cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphomas and lymphomas.

Homes Filled with Dangerous Pesticides: Study

Chemical Free Life

So it turns out much of the most dangerous types of indoor pollution we live with we may be creating ourselves…Despite the existence of chemical-free methods to eradicate pests, Americans use more than a billion pounds of pesticides per year. These chemicals are mostly out of sight and out of mind to unsuspecting homeowners, who are typically unaware of how to prevent potential harm – something new research is addressing.

There is reason for everyone to attend to this issue.  At CFL we have published a number of studies in recent years linking exposure to pesticides to cancer, endometriosis, lowered sperm count/infertility and miscarriage, among a number of other serious health conditions.

Harmful pesticides lurking in New York State homes

In a study recently published in JSM Health Education & Primary Health Care, researchers from Cornell University examined the extent of indoor pesticide pollution in…

Ask big corporations to stop plastic pollution! | Greenpeace

Take Action Now!

Single-use plastic costs little to companies, but the real price is paid by our planet and communities. For far too long, big companies have made big money forcing plastic packaging into our lives, most of the time without giving us the choice to avoid it.

Corporations like Nestlé, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Mars, Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Colgate-Palmolive, Johnson and Johnson, and Danone are increasing the amount of single-use plastic and, even if they claim to know little about where their plastic ends up, their solutions have only been related to recycling.

The truth is that recycling is not the solution: over 90% of the plastic ever made has not been recycled, it sits in landfills, ends up in the environment, or has been incinerated and dispersed toxic pollution back to our environment. We cannot simply recycle our way out of the plastic pollution crisis.

Our planet can’t take anymore. We need urgently to stop plastic pollution at its source. It’s time for corporations to move away from single-use plastic altogether.

We ask the CEOs of Nestlé, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Mars, Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Colgate-Palmolive, Johnson and Johnson, Danone:

to be transparent about the plastic they use and produce
to commit to reduction and set annual targets for reducing their plastic footprint
to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastic by the end of 2019
to invest in reuse and new delivery systems

The plastic pollution crisis is massive, and beach cleanups and recycling are simply not enough. We need real solutions now!

Add your name to demand that companies take responsibility for the plastic pollution crisis they helped create!

Please phase out single-use plastic packaging and invest in alternative delivery systems

To the CEOs of Nestlé, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Mars, Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Colgate-Palmolive, Johnson and Johnson, and Danone.

USA: Help Pass Prop 12 And Give Animals In Confinement Some Decent Legislation.

World Animals Voice

USA

https://mercyforanimals.org/make-history-with-us-help-pass-prop-12-from

Americans are less than three weeks from Election Day—and everyone in the U.S., not just Californians, can help pass Prop 12.

This historic measure would guarantee that all egg-laying hens, pigs used for breeding, and calves used for veal in California be free from severe confinement in small, cruel cages. The law would also mandate that all eggs, pork, and veal sold in California come from farms that meet this standard.

Measures like Prop 12 are crucial, since not a single federal law protects animals during their lives at factory farms. Most egg-laying hens and mother pigs in the U.S. are kept in enclosures so small the animals are unable to even turn around.

See for yourself

Prop 12 enjoys the support of dozens of leading animal protection organizations and humane societies, nearly 500 California veterinarians, the Center for Food Safety, Sierra Club of California, and more.

Lawsuit seeks online access to federal elephant, lion trophy import records

Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting Blog

Wildlife agency secretly issuing import permits despite President’s opposition

Washington, D.C. — Born Free USA, The Humane Society of the United States, Humane Society International, and Center for Biological Diversity sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) today for violating the law by failing to post online elephant and lion trophy permitting records as required by the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Under 1996 amendments to the Freedom of Information Act, agencies are obligated to post their decisions – including orders, policies, and interpretations – online for public inspection. The same obligation applies to certain types of records that are frequently requested and that have been released in the past. FWS’ FOIA log demonstrates that conservationists, journalists, and others request elephant and lion trophy import records often enough that this information should be posted online automatically as soon as the agency receives it.
