Candy buyers will see a less than sweet surprise this Halloween as confectionary prices surge over 30%. Even so, industry experts say it’s not deterring consumers.
According to PayPal data, the cost for Halloween sweets is projected to rise 34% compared to last year.
The National Confectioners Association (NCA) told FOX Business that both “chocolate and candy companies faced the same supply chain challenges that every industry has faced, especially around packaging.”
Earlier this summer, The Hershey Company, the maker of KitKat, Reese’s and Twizzlers, told analysts during an earnings call that it had to increase prices to offset the higher raw material and logistics costs.
Still, the National Retail Federation (NRF), the nation’s largest trade group, and the NCA are projecting a spike in participation for the upcoming holiday.
“Even with inflation … more people are celebrating, more people are focusing on the holiday experience,” Katherine Cullen, NRF senior director of industry and consumer insights, told FOX Business, adding their researchers haven’t seen a drop-off in spending.
The NRF estimates consumers will collectively dole out $3.1 billion in candy alone, outpacing last year’s spending of about $3 billion. The total is second behind costume spending, at $3.6 billion.

Halloween spending overall is expected to reach a record $10.6 billion, exceeding last year’s record of $10.1 billion. The NRF says Halloween is the second biggest retail event of the year.
PayPal Vice President of Shopping Greg Lisiewski told FOX Business that although families won’t be dishing out less candy necessarily, they will be “more diligent about finding deals and discounts.” The NRF says 67% of those surveyed plan to hand out candy.
Shoppers are also starting their Halloween shopping even earlier to help lessen the sting ahead of the big day.
“The longer shopping season allows shoppers to spread the cost out and better integrate the higher price into their budget.” Lisiewski said, adding candy has been on shelves since around Labor Day.
According to NRF data, nearly half, 47%, of all Halloween participants already started shopping in September or earlier.
A California resident who emigrated to the United States legally pushed back Tuesday after California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed off on a plan allowing undocumented residents to obtain state IDs.
Mike Diaz told Fox & Friends First host Carley Shimkus that the idea is “part of a much bigger problem” that will incentivize illegal immigration to the U.S.
“It’s a small part of a much bigger agenda that the Democrats have, and the message that liberal Democrats in California are sending is clear,” he said.

“They’re saying, ‘Look, the border is wide open. Use it.’” he added.
Diaz went on to list the ways illegal immigration is incentivized in America, including free education and relocation to wherever they would like to reside.
He said it’s “clearly not fair” to people like him who came to the United States through a legal process and waited years for citizenship.
Diaz also pointed out the tax implications of the policies, noting the mass exodus of Californians to other, less expensive states such as Texas and Florida.
“These policies are clearly not sustainable. You can tax Californians to death, and that’s why Californians are leaving to other states…” he said.
Diaz said Democrats are “absolutely” enforcing the new ID policy with a goal to allow the state’s illegal residents to vote in the future, particularly in hopes they will throw their support behind the Democratic Party.

Susie’s story is a devastating example of why animal cruelty laws are so important.
North Carolina is currently ranked appallingly low for animal protections — 42nd out of all 50 states. This is a disgrace to Susie and the many, many animals who have endured horrifying abuse. But the North Carolina legislature can take a few simple steps to dramatically increase animal welfare in the state. By adding statutorily authorized sentencing to mental health evaluation or treatment and a ban on animal ownership for people convicted of felony animal cruelty to Susie’s Law, the lives of untold animals could be protected.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sure has rubbed plenty of liberals the wrong way by sending the immigrants they’ve openly enticed straight to their doorstep.
However, as DeSantis pointed out in a rather savvy statement last week, various leftists states should be delighted by the arrivals, given their “sanctuary” status.
“States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country’ by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies,” the statement noted.
Indeed, such logic does not escape those who are open-minded, notably celebrity podcaster Charlamagne tha God.
Before Biden was elected president, he declared that a black person who doesn’t vote for him “ain’t black” on Charlamagne’s podcast, and such a remark likely sat with the podcaster for a long time afterwards.
As evidenced by his recent defense of DeSantis amid a sea of Hollywood hysterics.
“For months, Republican governors have sent busloads of illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities like New York, D.C., and Chicago, with the message of, ‘If you like them so much, they’re yours, OK?” Charlamagne began.
Seriously. After all, they want illegal immigration so badly, they may as well deal with it entirely themselves.
“Well, just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis upped the game by sending two planefuls of immigrants to the East Coast, elites’ favorite vacation island, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts,” Charlamagne continued.
Clever move on DeSantis’s part, no doubt. Or, as Charlamagne puts it, “genius.”
In fact, the podcaster went a step further and continued to shred other Democrats while giving a shoutout to Texas Governor Greg Abbott alongside DeSantis.
“But I wish that governors like Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott would give Democratic governors and mayors more of a heads-up, because then, that would expose the hypocrisy of the Democrats, which is they don’t want immigrants here, either,” Charlamagne remarked.
Bam. Now that’s the truth the White House won’t admit.
They’d rather falsely accuse the Florida governor of “kidnapping” (despite the migrants’ consent) than admit the truth: The border is an unmitigated disaster, as well as a human rights catastrophe.
One of the participants on the panel also took the opportunity to shred another notorious area of Democrat hypocrisy: the treatment of the homeless.
Panelist Rye Wood Jr. noted that Democrats oftentimes say one thing in public while doing another thing in private, especially when it comes to vulnerable populations.
“A lot of these Democratic cities, ‘Oh, we love people, oh we love people. Hey homeless man, get your a** out of here.’ They deliberately hide people already. So a lot of these Democrats that are complaining about the Republicans are running something similar within their own counties,” Wood remarked disgustedly.
Seriously. No wonder a homeless man threw a water bottle at California Governor Gavin Newsom, a staunch Democrat and rumored 2024 presidential candidate, after the leftist made one of his many phony public appearances.
Humorously, the homeless man was promptly arrested, likely the only arrest of a homeless individual that entire year.
After all, only Emperor Newsom deserves the protection of the law.
No wonder DeSantis has scored $170M+ more in fundraising than Newsom has.
However, the left apparently remains as clueless as ever, given the rather hilarious class action lawsuit initiated by the deceptively named “Lawyers for Civil Right.”
According to the leftist lawyers, Florida officials allegedly “designed and executed a premeditated, fraudulent, and illegal scheme centered on exploiting this vulnerability for the sole purpose of advancing their own personal, financial and political interests.”
Unfortunately, the well-coiffed yet intellectually empty lawyers of Massachusetts failed to identify a single violation that occurred.
Which is why yet another DeSantis statement shredded their non-argument to pieces.
“It is opportunistic that activists would use illegal immigrants for political theater. If these activists spent even a fraction of this time and effort at the border, perhaps some accountability would be brought to the Biden Administration’s reckless border policies that entice illegal immigrants to make dangerous and often lethal journeys through Central America and put their lives in the hands of cartels and Coyotes,” the statement noted wryly.
Seriously. Significant human tragedy could have been avoided had the White House not “played politics” with people’s lives.
“The transportation of the immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard was done on a voluntary basis. The immigrants were homeless, hungry, and abandoned – and these activists didn’t care about them then,” the statement continued.
That’s right. They only “cared” when the migrants became inconvenient.
“Florida’s program gave them a fresh start in a sanctuary state and these individuals opted to take advantage of chartered flights to Massachusetts,” the statement added, “it was disappointing that Martha’s Vineyard called in the Massachusetts National Guard to bus them away from the island within 48 hours.”
It was deeply disappointed indeed.
After all, the left opposes the National Guard when BLM is literally setting entire cities on fire, provided that they aren’t impacted at all.
Nearly 50 actually peaceful migrants show up to Martha’s Vineyard, yet the left immediately uses the National Guard to expel them.

Our goal is to bring positive change to AHS Newark Animal Shelter. Animals there are being neglected, abused and suffering. Health code violations are EVERYWHERE. Disease is spreading. Uneducated shelter staff and volunteers are unknowingly endangering the lives of animals in their care. Adequate Medical treatment is not being provided to animals in need. Adoptions are being made that place animals in unsafe homes and situations, resulting in many returns or people simply abandoning animals. Indoor kennel temperatures are soaring near 90 degrees while pigeons spread disease throughout the building. Donations continue to be accepted with no explanation for where the money is going.

LENA, La. (WKRC) — A mother and daughter who run a dog training facility in Louisiana are facing charges after a video of their controversial methods went viral, according to authorities.
Tina Frey, 52, and her daughter, Victoria Brimer, 21, own and operate the Cypress Arrow Kennel & K9 Academy.
Police said video was taken of a lesson that reportedly shows Frey “striking a Cane Corso dog on the head with a riding crop.”
Frey’s attorney, Brad Drell, claims she is an “expert” trainer who has never hurt or injured an animal.
He also argued that the breed of dog is well over 100 pounds it can potentially be dangerous to humans if not trained properly.
The video circulating of Ms. Frey using a squirt [a short whip] on [the dog called] Fenixx creates a false impression that dogs are being injured,” Drell said. “While the video is disturbing for many to watch, what needs to be understood is that Fenixx at the time was attempting to chew through a leash, which would have allowed Fenixx to bite either Ms. Frey or her daughter. “
In the footage, Drell added, both Frey and Fennixx can be seen using the squirt on themselves, as well.
While the quirt makes some noise, it is flexible and not painful,” he said. “While I understand that many people feel, and some quite strongly, that the use of the quirt is not what they would do to correct a dog, the use of the quirt is not inhumane under the law. Fenixx was in no way injured, as is shown in the video.”
Police said the arrests were still celebrated by many animal and rescue organizations that shared the video online as a warning to pet owners.
Frey and Brimer have each been charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. They were both released on a $10,000 bond, but police said the investigation is still active, and more charges could be filed.
“I want to thank the public for bearing with us while we conducted a complete and thorough investigation into these allegations” said Sheriff Mark Wood. “I would also like to commend our Animal Control Section and our detectives in their investigation of this incident and to staying the course, following the evidence where it leads and not bending to pressure of a quick arrest” said Sheriff Mark Wood. “We always take these animal complaints seriously as we do all crimes, but we also have to investigate and make sure the alleged crime fits the law.”

Thanks to the NFL’s 11-year broadcasting deal signed in 2021, the Thursday Night Football franchise began airing on the online behemoth only last week, the first time a streaming platform has been given a full-time deal to air NFL games.
Previously, Amazon split the deal with a broadcast television network, most recently with Fox from 2018-2021 after CBS and NBC split the package for the previous two seasons.
As with the NFL’s contracts in the past with cable outlets like ESPN and their own NFL Network, the game is syndicated to an over-the-air station in the team’s local market. That means WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh and WEWS-TV in Cleveland will air the game to their home markets.
But that provision does not extend to the team’s secondary markets. The NFL designates the Johnstown/Altoona market along with the Wheeling, W.Va., Clarksburg, W.Va., and Youngstown, Ohio markets as the Steelers other secondary markets which get all games of the pertinent team that air on the network’s packages on CBS and Fox.

The activist group at the center of a class-action lawsuit against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and other Florida officials for migrant flights to Martha’s Vineyard has received nearly $1.4 million from George Soros’ Open Society network.
Lawyers for Civil Rights, a nonprofit immigrant advocacy group, filed the lawsuit on behalf of Alianza Americas, according to a press release Tuesday that described the latter group as “a network of migrant-led organizations supporting immigrants across the United States.”
Alianza Americas has received a total of $1,383,947 from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations between 2016 and 2020, OSF’s records show.
The grants came from three of his nonprofits: Open Society Institute, Open Society Policy Center and Foundation to Promote Open Society.
The grants were to support policy advocacy on immigration, a Global Compact for Migration initiative and to strengthen the group’s international work in Central America and Mexico.
The law firm filing the suit, Lawyers for Civil Rights, received $50,000 from the Borealis Philanthropy in 2019, tax forms show. Borealis is a left-wing donor-advised fund that acts as an intermediary steering Democratic money to organizations.
Borealis has partnered with Black Lives Matter and the left-wing Marguerite Casey Foundation, which advocates for the abolishment of policing and prisons.
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation has also awarded $1.26 million to Alianza Americas between 2008 and 2020, according to grants posted on its website.

The MacArthur Foundation funds liberal endeavors and said in September 2020 that it was awarding $25 million in grants to address “anti-Black racism, support Native Americans impacted by COVID-19, strengthen voter education and mobilization and combat voter suppression.”
The class-action suit filed by Lawyers for Civil Rights in the District of Massachusetts alleges that DeSantis and others “designed and executed a premeditated, fraudulent and illegal scheme centered on exploiting this vulnerability for the sole purpose of advancing their own personal, financial and political interests.”
The lawsuit alleges that the migrants were told they were going to Boston or Washington, “which was completely false,” and were induced with perks such as $10 McDonald’s gift certificates. It also alleges that migrants were induced to cross state lines under false pretenses, a line that some Democratic officials are using to urge a federal investigation.

“No human being should be used as a political pawn,” said Ivan Espinoza-Madrigal, executive director of Lawyers for Civil Rights, which is seeking class-action status representing Alianza Americas and other migrants.
In a statement provided to Fox News Digital, DeSantis spokesperson Taryn Fenske slammed the lawsuit as “political theater” perpetrated by “opportunistic activists” at the expense of illegal immigrants.
“If these activists spent even a fraction of this time and effort at the border, perhaps some accountability would be brought to the Biden administration’s reckless border policies that entice illegal immigrants to make dangerous and often lethal journeys through Central America and put their lives in the hands of cartels and ‘coyotes,’” Fenske said.

Fenske provided Fox News with a copy of a consent form — available in English and Spanish — that she said was given to migrants before they boarded.
The form states, “I agree to hold the benefactor or its designed representatives harmless of all liability arising out of or in any way relating to any injuries and damages that may occur during the agreed transport to locations outside of Texas until the final destination in Massachusetts.”
