I’ve been holding onto this smoothie idea for a while now. I believe the first time I whipped up this strawberry shake was last fall. Miraculously, I actually wrote down the ingredients and amounts that I used, and even more amazingly, I managed to save the notebook where I jotted them down. My plan was to stash it away until strawberry season arrived. Then I started getting antsy. It finally occurred to me that it probably is strawberry season, somewhere. In fact, in some places strawberry season may have come and gone! WHY haven’t I posted this yet?? Also, I just really couldn’t wait to tell you about it.
There is just something so cheery about strawberries… their bright red hue, sweet flavor, and juicy texture. A ripe strawberry has the ability to take me back to summertime as a kid, running around barefoot on a hot sunny day, tromping…

Looking for a naturally sweet treat with absolutely no added sugar or sweeteners? Have I got a treat for you. Today I introduce you to the most insanely delicious, dreamy, creamy, drippy, “heaven-in-a-jar,” homemade nut butter that your taste buds have ever met.
Holy Toledo, is this stuff ever good. If it was any better, or more addictive, mixing this up in your kitchen would have to be illegal.
Blending this up really couldn’t be easier. The only thing separating you from toasted coconut/cashew bliss, is a good food processor and four simple ingredients. Although it tastes sweet and buttery, there isn’t a drop of sweetener or added oil (or butter, ghee, etc.). In fact, there’s less than a gram of natural sugars per serving. This vegan nut butter is a simple, but heavenly, combination of toasted coconut, roasted cashews, salt, and vanilla extract.
It transforms the simple snack of apples and…

I can’t sleep! I craved brownies tonight, but disciplined myself and refused to make any…up until now. Since everything is so quiet, I thought to myself that this is actually one of “MY” recipes that I spent time perfecting. In the past, I had made brownie recipes from reputable cookbooks and/or online blogs, but every time I did, I would get a very hard crust and a goopy (not Gwenyth Paltrow) center. I make these ALL the time and they are 100% foolproof.

I love a great vacation. Almost 2 weeks skiing in Austria at a 4 starts hotel is an amazing one. 245 cm of snow is more that I dreamed.
Our hotel Thermal Badhotel Kirchler is situated near Hintertux Glacier where you can ski all year long. Has a pool, sauna, excellent service and amazing good food. But, too much food. Even with all the skiing and snowboarding, at the end they serve you too much food. And you eat, because is good and you can’t stop.
So, coming back home, it is time to detox. My detox juice is simple and very healthy, and you can make it in the morning.
– fresh parsley
– 1 lemon
– 1/2 cucumber
– 500 ml water
Put everything in the blender and mix it. Drink it in the morning or during the day. Do this detox for 2 weeks and then…

A Mississippi sheriff’s deputy was about to be dragged to his death when his quick-acting canine came to his rescue, authorities said.
Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Frazier was attacked by three men who beat him and sliced him with a box cutter after Frazier stepped out of his car to investigate a suspicious vehicle on the evening of May 18 in Pearlington.
“They told him they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him toward the woods,” Chief Deputy Don Bass said, according to the Clarion-Ledger. “The three of them were dragging him toward the wooded area, and he was able to break one hand free to activate the button that opens the door and it released Lucas.”
Lucas, a black Belgian Malinois, sprung into action. The dog attacked the three men, biting two of them before they fled in their Lincoln Town Car, authorities said.

Did you know that Walmart sells around 25 % of all food in the United States? A company with such a huge market share definitely has enormous influence on those that produce the food they sell. So when Walmart announced it would encourage their suppliers to give animals more space, to discourage the use of antibiotics, to use pain killers for all painful procedures, this truly is a step in the right direction.
It will not be possible to end all the inhumane actions against animals in one step, but this news gives hope that especially in the food industry there will be a change of thought – leading to a change in action.

May 2015– AUSTRALIA– Just three months – that’s all it took to wipe almost every member of a species of turtles off of the map. It all started in mid-February when canoeists paddling down the Bellinger River in New South Wales, Australia, came across several dead and dying turtles. Since then more than 400 dead turtles have shown up. Dozens more sick turtles were also recovered, each of which was lethargic, emaciated and covered in infected lesions in their eyes, skin and even internal organs. None of the infected turtles survived. The 60-kilometer river is the only home to the Bellinger River snapping turtle (Elsaya georgesi), a rare but little-studied species that has already been on the decline for years due to pollution and predation by invasive foxes. Scientists now fear that this mysterious, as-yet-unidentified disease has reached 90 percent of the turtle’s habitat and could…

Beware deceptive news
I wanted to caution everyone who looks to the Internet for news and opinion. False reports and biased opinions masquerading as reason and science are increasing (no, Pope Francis and President Obama are not planning to stage a coup in Texas). As I scan the news for stories worth repeating, I have had to become more scrupulous in checking content and sources. The major subjects for deceit are:
- Energy production with fossil fuels (appearing in items about human-caused climate change and alternative energy sources),
- Food production with pesticide resistant crops, economic benefits of logging, grazing, plowing, and pumping,
- Security obtained with weapons sales and military might.
The most destructive effects of the trickery come from the rhetoric and decisions of politicians and government administrators controlled by private industry. The result is a massive barrage of deception and diversion of public funds to support the energy, chemical, land-use…

May 27th, 2015. LOS ANGELES — More than two dozen marine mammals and nearly 40 birds, most of them pelicans, have been collected dead and alive from along California’s oil-fouled coastline near Santa Barbara in the week since a petroleum pipeline ruptured there, wildlife officials said yesterday (May 26).

May 26th, 2015 (John Carroll). TIJUANA – A big stretch of Tijuana beach turned bright red today as hundreds of crustaceans washed up on the sand. The creatures are a kind of crab, better known as Langostino.
The scene Tuesday afternoon on Playas de Tijuana was surreal as hundreds of the small creatures dotted the sand, most of them dead. “I thought first of all it was like all that polluted water we have around here, especially in Tijuana, but then another theory they say is that they (were brought here) by the currents,” said one woman on the beach.

Public Release: 26-May-2015
New research published today in Diabetologia (the journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes) indicates that consuming greater quantities of dietary fibre reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Over 360 million people worldwide are estimated to be affected by diabetes, and this number is projected to increase to more than 550 million by 2030, with serious consequences for the health and economy of both developed and developing countries. While previous research has found an association between increased dietary fibre intake and a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes, most of these data come from the United States, and amounts and sources of fibre intake differ substantially between countries. In this article the authors evaluated the associations between total fibre as well as fibre from cereal, fruit, and vegetable sources, and new-onset type 2 diabetes in a large European cohort across…

Truck driver Chis Price was worried about more than just his health when he collapsed in Kansas City, Missouri, while out on a haul last month.
Price, whose home is in Tennessee, was even more concerned about his driving buddy: a sweet white pit bull named Coco — who’d been with him all over, nonstop, for seven years, and who was taken away by animal control as Price himself was carted off in an ambulance.
“Going to the pound 500 miles away from home, you just don’t know what’s going to happen,” Price told a local Fox affiliate.
There was good reason to be nervous. An estimated 3,000 pit bulls are killed in animal shelters across the country each day.
But Price was lucky. He’d gotten sick in a city that’s home to one of the country’s largest no-kill shelters, the Kansas City Pet Project — where workers were…
