In Wake of Non-“Attack” Wisconsin DNR and USFWS Launch “Secret” Operation To Eradicate Wolf Pack Despite Endangered Status

Our Wisconsin, Our Wildlife

Wikinews_Breaking_News

In the wake of the highly dubious non-“attack” against a great white hunter and NRA propaganda poster boy last month Adams County Wisconsin the Wisconsin DNR and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are seeking to eradicate wolves in the Colburn WILDLIFE Area despite the species allegedly being under ESA protections.

Normally I am highly critical of the killing propaganda done by Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, “outdoor writer” Paul Smith, but he deserves credit for bringing this to the public despite the Wisconsin DNR and USFWS apparently trying to keep it secret for as long as possible.

A September incident in Adams County in which a man said he was approached by three wolves was not an “attack,” according to an investigation by federal and state law enforcement officials.

However, efforts are underway to trap and kill wolves at the public property where the incident took place.

The trapping was initiated after Department…

Namibia’s Hidden Poaching Crisis

strange behaviors

This story is dismaying for me, as I have often written about Namibia as a model of smart conservation and anti-poaching common sense. But no place is safe in the current war on wildlife. Or, let’s call it what it is –China’s continuing war on wildlife.

Here’s the reporting by Shi Yi, a Chinese investigative journalist working in southern Africa:

Caprivi imagesIt was a quiet evening in Zambezi, until a herdsman heard a gunshot in the wilderness. By the time the police arrived, they found an elephant carcass – and the tusks had been taken.

“It could be a good trophy animal. Poachers never take small ones,” said chief control warden Morgan Saisai at the Katima Mulilo office of Namibia’s Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MET).

The carcass brought the number of elephants poached in Zambezi, [a region until recently…

Tourist captures image of mysterious sea monster off Grecian coastline

Nwo Report

harveymonster3432.jpgSource: Sky McCarthy

A Scottish tourist unwittingly captured an unidentifiable sea monster while vacationing in Greece.

Harvey Robertson was on a boat cruise off the coast of Parga, sailing through sea caves with his family. He was initially just trying to capture the unusual color of the surrounding water with his iPhone camera.

What he shot instead has baffled those across the Internet—and marine scientists. Looking back through his camera, Robertson saw that he had captured a grey creature that resembles an elongated manatee. The strange animal appears to pop out of the water in one photo, then disappears under the greenish water in the next.

“I didn’t actually see the animal at the time as was trying to capture the water color (fluorescent blue) at the point before becoming black,” Robertson told FoxNews.com via email. “You can only imagine my surprise when I was looking back through my photos.”

African vultures headed for extinction

Africa’s vultures are vanishing, according to a report released on Thursday, a situation that could affect human health and livestock since populations of other scavengers such as rats and jackals could rise as a result.

The assessment, carried out by conservation group BirdLife International, found that six of Africa’s 11 vulture species were at risk of extinction.

Deliberate targeting by poachers is one of the reasons as the birds, which circle the sights where they feed, can alert authorities to the carcasses of illegally slain animals.

“Vultures are important. They come in, they clean up and they leave,” said Ross Wanless of BirdLife South Africa.

Vultures also help to stem the spread of disease on the world’s poorest continent by eating carcasses that would otherwise rot.

Other reasons behind the decline of the big birds include indiscriminate poisonings and the popularity of vulture parts for…

Everglades’ Alligator Numbers Drop after Dry Years

Natural History Wanderings

News Release USGS

Everglades’ Alligator Numbers Drop after Dry Years

Alligators and the Everglades go hand-in-hand, and as water conditions change in the greater Everglades ecosystem, gators are one of the key species that could be affected.

A recent study conducted by researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the University of Florida found the number of American alligators observed in the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge dropped following dry years, and then appeared to recover in later non-dry years. The decrease in alligators appeared proportional to the intensity of the dry event. The refuge is located west of Boynton Beach, within the greater Everglades ecosystem.

“Alligator behavior and habitat use is linked to hydrology, and when that hydrology changes, alligator behavior and habitat can change,” said USGS research ecologist Hardin Waddle, lead author of the study. “They don’t need it wet all…

The Thread That Binds for PETA: Death

mom2nomads

PETA is still in very hot water over its support of Breed Specific Legislation and is trying mightily to spin the truth. But the truth is the truth, we must keep our focus on it. And when you dig deep into the way their actions impact companion animals you can see that they have one common thread — animals end up dead.

Let’s just get some facts out there.

First Fact: During the months of July, August, and September, PETA took in 630 animals and 490 of those animals were killed. You can find a statement by Virginia Senator Bill Stanley about those numbers here. Sadly, these are typical numbers for PETA. In 2014 they took in 2,631 animals and killed 2,324. You can find more information about their shockingly high kill rate here.

Second Fact: PETA kills adoptable animals without ever trying to rehome them. I know…

Dozens of German Shepherds help protect tigers in India, illegal wildlife-products trade brings in $12 billion yearly

WebInvestigator.KK.org - by F. Kaskais

Image
Dr. Becker

In the US and certain other countries, like the UK, German Shepherds are among the most popular dogs used by police. While the dogs can be fierce and learn to display aggression when instructed, their primary skill is to find.

German Shepherds may be used, for instance, to find a suspect inside a building and alert police (via a head camera) to his whereabouts. They’re also valued for their ability to track dead bodies and find other valuable pieces of evidence (like a dropped weapon or article of clothing) from which police can draw DNA evidence.1

In countries such as India, German Shepherds are also being used for fighting crime, in the form of wildlife sniffer dogs trained to help stop animal poaching.

Sickening effect of satellite radio collars polar bear researchers don’t want you to see

polarbearscience

A report at CBC News (Photo shows polar bear injured by tight radio collar,” Martin Zeilig, 28 October 2015) shows the bloodied neck of a male Southern Beaufort Sea polar bear, taken near Kaktovik, Alaska, whose radio collar is too tight.

polar-bear-radio-collar_CBC Oct 28 2015

Researchers should not be putting collars on young animals and male bears – they know the problems! Who did the USGShave working for them that did not know this – or couldn’t tell a male bear from a female? The other question is: how many more bears are in the same condition but out of sight on the sea ice – or dead due to their injuries? Don’t forget, this is a population that researchers claim is endangered because of a recent population decline due to thick spring ice in 2004-2006.

From the CBC article:

“The photo was taken in Kaktovik in eastern Alaska, along…

USA: Breaking News – Tyson Face Cruelty Charges After MFA Undercover Evidence.

MFA 2

Dear Mark,

It’s sickening. Birds punched, thrown, and even sexually assaulted.

Even after all I’ve seen in the 16 years since I founded Mercy For Animals, I was still completely shocked by the horrific cruelty and violence our brave investigator just exposed at Tyson Foods—the world’s largest poultry company.

Working undercover at a Tyson Foods slaughterhouse in Mississippi, a courageous MFA investigator documented chickens being dumped, dropped, dragged, hit like punching bags, tortured for fun, and even sexually assaulted as they were violently slammed into shackles on the slaughter line. He also documented countless birds getting their heads ripped off while they were still alive and chirping.

Yesterday, MFA filed affidavits with the Leake County Court in Mississippi to initiate charges of a total of 33 counts of animal cruelty against Tyson Foods Inc. and six particularly malicious workers at the facility.

This important story broke this morning in…

Today, Nuclear Information and Resource Service released maps of the likely routes radioactive shipments would use, joining dozens of environmental and clean energy groups across the country. The groups want residents to weigh in with Congress and decision makers about the dangers.

Windows 10 shares your files with the internet… here’s how to turn it off

Nwo Report

heroSource: ZDNet

If you are one of the millions of users who have upgraded to Windows 10, you are likely to be very familiar with the Windows update process. Microsoft updates Windows 10 when it needs to be updated. It’s part of Microsoft’s master plan and is generally a good thing.

To facilitate efficiency in the Windows 10 update process, Microsoft has created a system it calls, in typical cryptic fashion, Windows Update Delivery Optimization. To put it in simple terms, when Delivery Optimization is on, Windows 10 will send updates from your computer to other computers on your local network or on the internet. That’s right, Windows Update Delivery Optimization is a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, which operates similarly to BitTorrent.

Default settings

Windows Update Delivery Optimization has two settings:

  • Setting 1 allows Windows 10 to share files with other computers on your local network only.
  • Setting…

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true. —Soren Kierkegaard. "...truth is true even if nobody believes it, and falsehood is false even if everybody believes it. That is why truth does not yield to opinion, fashion, numbers, office, or sincerity--it is simply true and that is the end of it" - Os Guinness, Time for Truth, pg.39. “He that takes truth for his guide, and duty for his end, may safely trust to God’s providence to lead him aright.” - Blaise Pascal. "There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily" – George Washington letter to Edmund Randolph — 1795. We live in a “post-truth” world. According to the dictionary, “post-truth” means, “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” Simply put, we now live in a culture that seems to value experience and emotion more than truth. Truth will never go away no matter how hard one might wish. Going beyond the MSM idealogical opinion/bias and their low information tabloid reality show news with a distractional superficial focus on entertainment, sensationalism, emotionalism and activist reporting – this blogs goal is to, in some small way, put a plug in the broken dam of truth and save as many as possible from the consequences—temporal and eternal. "The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it." – George Orwell “There are two ways to be fooled.
