URGENT PLEA TO AID TAIZ ZOO ANIMALS IN YEMEN

Native Americans’ water supply contaminated by uranium mining

nuclear-news

indigenousNative Americans Ask: What About Our Water Supply? http://m.voanews.com/a/native-americans-ask-what-about-our-water-supply/3188737.html Celebrities and politicians have rallied around the city of Flint, Michigan, where thousands of children have been exposed to unsafe levels of lead in drinking water. But Native Americans say they have been facing an even more dangerous water contaminant for decades – uranium – and received far less attention

The Cold War arms race triggered a boom in uranium mining in the U.S. Between the 1940s and 1980s, uranium mining operations were carried out under a 19th century mining law that did not require them to clean up after themselves. When demand for uranium waned in the 1980s, companies simply walked away, leaving open pits and tunnels – and enormous amounts of radioactive waste. Today more than 15,000 abandoned uranium mines dot the U.S. West. Three-quarters of them are located on federal and tribal lands.

Sea turtles with tumors fill Florida hospital (USA)

The ocean update

turtle-hospital-hopital-tortues-marathon-keysFebruary 7th, 2016. The young patient writhes on the operating table, kicking its flippers. A team of medical attendants turns it over, revealing an underbelly cluttered with tumors, some as big as golf balls.

This endangered green sea turtle, about two years old and too young for the staff to know yet whether it is male or female, is infected with fibropapillomatosis, a potentially deadly disease caused by a type of herpes virus.

Guest Blog: Danger On Our Public Lands

Our Wisconsin, Our Wildlife

Wolf,_Canis_lupus_06 Photo via Wikimedia Commons

This is the first in what we hope is a series of guest blogs from Northern Wisconsin residents that are under siege by the bloodthirsty hounders, trappers, baiters, and predator killers that have taken over YOUR public lands. The name of the writer is being withheld due to protect them from the vicious and vile attacks that those we fight against are known for.

Danger on Our Public Lands

Wisconsin spends a great deal of tax payer money promoting our State Parks, the Ice Age Trail and our beautiful Natural Areas for fall and winter activities. A State Natural Area or Preserve was the peaceful setting last month where Dr. Deanna and her dogs were enjoying the beauty and solitude of a Wisconsin winter evening on a hiking trail. But her peace and her life were shattered forever by gun shots from a coyote hunter at close…

Announcing Hound Free Public Lands- Wisconsin

Our Wisconsin, Our Wildlife

12622381_10206863967372526_8493780062722773985_o

It’s been a couple of months since I have done a blog post and there is a good reason for that. Myself and other wildlife advocates have started a new project called Hound Free Public Lands- Wisconsin  and we are working to turn the Our Wisconsin, Our Wildlife blog into an outlet for frustrated residents of Northern Wisconsin and other areas under siege by hounders, trappers, and baiters to be able to express themselves without fear of retribution.

We invite you to “like” our new Hound Free Public Lands- Wisconsin Facebook page and keep an eye out for the expansion of the movement to educate the general public about what really occurs in our woods and on YOUR public lands. Please like our new page here:

Our movement is growing and we invite you to join us in this.

Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Flavors Should Be In Scoop shops and Grocery Stores In The Next Few Weeks

unnamed(2)

You probably saw the news on February 3rd that Ben and Jerry’s has announced the non-dairy flavors! Even better, they’re on their way and should be in scoop shops and grocery stores in the next few weeks:

http://www.benjerry.com/flavors/non-dairy

Thank you so much for taking action to make this happen, and bringing about a kinder, tastier world!

We called our local scoop shop to ask when they would be stocking the delicious, non-dairy flavors and they told us that they’d be in at the beginning of March. They also told us that they are keeping a tally of the number of people who call or come in to ask about the non-dairy flavors. They are clearly going to be tuned in to customer demand in these first months, so please call your local scoop shop to let them know you’re excited about the incoming non-dairy flavors and to check on when they will be stocking them!

Best wishes,
Jenny and Doug
