Operation Legend Expanded to Memphis and St. Louis

justice.gov

Today, the expansion of Operation Legend was announced in Memphis and St. Louis. Operation Legend is a sustained, systematic and coordinated law enforcement initiative in which federal law enforcement agencies work in conjunction with state and local law enforcement officials to fight violent crime. The Operation was first launched on July 8 in Kansas City, MO., and expanded on July 22, 2020, to Chicago and Albuquerque, and to Cleveland, Detroit, and Milwaukee on July 29, 2020.

Operation Legend is named in honor of four-year-old LeGend Taliferro, who was shot and killed while he slept early in the morning of June 29 in Kansas City.

“The most basic responsibility of government is to protect the safety of our citizens,” said Attorney General William P. Barr. “Today, we have extended Operation Legend to Memphis and St. Louis, two cities experiencing increases in violent crime that no resident of those cities should have to accept as part of everyday life. For decades, the Department of Justice has achieved significant success when utilizing our anti-violent crime task forces and federal law enforcement agents to enforce federal law and assist American cities that are experiencing upticks in violent crime. The Department of Justice’s assets will supplement local law enforcement efforts, as we work together to take the shooters and chronic violent criminals off of our streets.”

As part of Operation Legend, Attorney General Barr directed the ATF, FBI, DEA, and U.S. Marshals Service to significantly increase resources into Memphis and St. Louis in the coming weeks to help state and local officials fight high levels of violent crime, particularly gun violence.

Memphis is currently experiencing a significant increase in violent crime, with homicides currently up more than 49 percent, reported gun crime up 23 percent, and aggravated assault shootings up over 19 percent over 2019. Similarly, homicides are up in St. Louis nearly 34 percent and non-fatal shootings are up over 13 percent.

In Memphis, the Department of Justice will supplement state and local law enforcement agencies by sending 16 federal investigators to the city on temporary assignment for 90 days, followed by 24 permanent agent assignments from the FBI, DEA, ATF, and Homeland Security Investigations. Under the leadership of Michael Dunavant, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, these investigators will complement the work already underway by existing joint federal, state and local task forces focused on combatting violent gangs, gun crime, and drug trafficking organizations.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance will make available $200,000 to support Operation Legend’s violent crime reduction efforts in Memphis in addition to the prior BJA grant funding award of $1.4 million to Shelby County to provide manpower, technology, equipment, and support for the sustained efforts Legend Task Force, including overtime funding for the Multi-Agency Gang Unit (MGU) and partner agency officers; a prosecutor for the Shelby County District Attorney General’s Office to handle operation arrests vertically through the state criminal justice system to ensure that arrests are followed by strategic prosecution; vehicles for MGU operations; and technological solutions to enhance investigation and prosecution of violent offenders.

The COPS Office has also made approximately $9.8 million available to the Memphis Police Department to fund the hiring of 50 officers.

The Department has also provided assistance to Memphis through the Joint Law Enforcement Operations (JLEO) fund to assist reimbursement of local law enforcement serving as federal task force officers with FBI, ATF, DEA, and the U.S. Marshals Service. The city will receive $100,000 from ATF to help local agencies defray costs associated with installing or maintaining shot detection technology.

In St. Louis, under the leadership of Jeffrey Jensen, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, federal agents from ATF, DEA, FBI, and USMS, along with approximately 50 additional agents from Department of Homeland Security, will work cooperatively with the St. Louis Police Department to combat gun and gang violence, as well as assist the U.S. Marshals Service in violent fugitive apprehension efforts.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance will make available $1 million to support local law enforcement in shot spotter responses and violent crime investigations in St. Louis. With Department of Justice funding, the city is also receiving two Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office to support violent crime prosecutions.

Man accused of kidnapping Linda Stoltzfoos in police custody; Stoltzfoos still missing

Linda’s whereabouts remain unknown but police say they have reason to believe she was harmed after her abduction. Author: Bianca Garcia (FOX43) Published: 4:31 PM EDT July 11, 2020

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Police say a Paradise man has been taken into custody regarding the disappearance of an 18-year-old Amish woman in Lancaster County.

Justo Smoker, 34, was taken into custody on Friday night at his place of employment, police say. He has been charged with felony kidnapping and misdemeanor false imprisonment.

According to officials, Linda Stoltzfoos’ whereabouts remain unknown and investigators are actively working to determine what happened to her after she was taken. Police say they have reason to believe she was harmed following her abduction.

On Friday evening, investigators searched a rural area in Ronks, where they thought Stoltzfoos might have been kidnapped. They found articles of clothing believed to be hers buried in a wooded area.

Smoker’s vehicle, a red Kia Rio sedan with a distinct “LCM” sticker on the trunk, was seen parked in the rural area on June 23, according to the police release.

Police say Smoker became a person of interest in the kidnapping after they received tips about a red/orange vehicle seen in the Gap area on the afternoon of Stoltzfoos’ abduction.

Multiple witnesses in the area also told police they had seen an Amish woman in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by a man, with the vehicle and driver’s description matching Smoker.

Investigators reveal they obtained surveillance footage that showed Stoltzfoos’ abduction on Beechdale Road, which she would have taken on her walk back home from church, involving a red Kia Rio. Suspect’s vehicle Lancaster County DA’s Office

Stoltzfoos’ father reported her missing on June 21 after she didn’t return home after a youth group meeting she was supposed to have attended, according to police. Investigators confirmed that she never made it to the meeting.

Police also said during their investigation they found nothing that indicated that Stoltzfoos was unhappy or wanted to leave her community.

Investigators say they currently do not plan on answering questions but will be providing updates during the continued search for Stoltzfoos.

Smoker is currently in Lancaster County Prison and has been denied bail by the district judge based on the nature of his charges.

Detectives asking anyone who might have seen Smoker or his red Kia Rio sedan, around the time Stoltzfoos was abducted and in the days after, to contact police at 717-291-4676.

(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) JUST IN: CBP Air and Marine Operations and the U.S. Coast Guard Report: Agents have appr ehended two panga boats carrying 21-illegal-immigrants after 14-landed one of their boats on ‘ Dog B each ‘ early on Friday morning intent on smug…

acenewsservices.com

#AceNewsReport – July.06: Two boats attempting to enter the U.S. illegally along the San Diego coast failed to yield to CBP Air and Marine Operations and the U.S. Coast Guard, leading to CBP marine interdiction agents shooting out one engine at sea, and U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehending 14 others after their boat landed at Dog Beach early Friday morning: “We had multiple agencies involved in bringing this dangerous smuggling attempt to a safe conclusion,” said Christopher Hunter, Director of Marine Operations for CBP in San Diego. “Smugglers have no regard for the lives and safety of everyone on board when they make reckless maritime manoeuvres.”

At about 1 a.m. on July 3, a CBP multi-role enforcement aircraft tracked two pangas as they crossed from Mexican territorial waters towards the U.S. The aircraft directed a CBP coastal interceptor boat to the location of one panga, and a U.S. Coast Guard small boat to the other panga: At about 3:30 a.m., the CBP coastal interceptor boat reached the first panga with lights and sirens going, directing the panga to stop: However, the panga failed to yield and instead fled from the CBP marine interdiction agents: The marine interdiction agents fired two marine warning shots, and the panga still failed to yield: Finally, the marine interdiction agents fired a disabling round into the panga’s engine, which stopped the boat about five miles from Point Loma. On board, marine interdiction agents found seven people.

The USCG small boat reached the second panga, which also failed to yield. The second panga was able to land on Ocean Beach in San Diego, near the area known as Dog Beach: U.S. Border Patrol agents in place along the beach immediately apprehended four individuals on the beach who attempted to climb out of the boat and flee: Agents apprehended nine others in a nearby park with assistance from the crew of the multi-role enforcement aircraft: One additional person fled by trying to swim away from agents on the beach: Thanks to a citizen calling in with information, U.S. Border Patrol agents were able to apprehend him on the jetty at Dog Beach.

The marine interdiction agents brought the seven individuals from the first boat safely to the dock, and turned them over to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing: Border Patrol agents determined that all seven, six men, ages 19-50, and one woman, age 29, were Mexican nationals with no legal ability to enter the U.S: U.S. Border Patrol agents also processed the 14 individuals they apprehended from the second boat: The group included: three women, ages 27-40; ten men, ages 18-45, and one unaccompanied male teenager. All were Mexican nationals with no legal ability to enter the U.S………………….In both cases, CBP Air and Marine Operations seized the panga boats:

If you have information about maritime smuggling or suspicious activity along the coast of California, please call the San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center at 1-800-854-9834 extension 1, or notify local law enforcement by dialing 9-1-1.

Borough and regional police departments, as well as National Military Park rangers, say they are monitoring the situation and will take appropriate safety measures Author: Jamie Bittner (FOX43) Published: 7:10 PM EDT June 25, 2020

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Law enforcement and regional public safety agencies in the Gettysburg Borough and the surrounding area said Wednesday they are aware of online posts claiming an American flag burning will take place in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on July 4.

They are also aware of rumors that counter-protestors may show up to ‘protect’ the flag.  null

“There will be folks here who want to help, or what they envision as help, protect the National Park. There are going to be folks here who are going to come even if it’s a trolling post because they’re not sure that it’s a trolling post,” said Gettysburg Police Chief R. W. Glenny Jr.

“If Group A shows, Group B shows. If Group A doesn’t show, Group B is still likely to show,” said Jason Martz, acting public affairs officer of Gettysburg National Park.

However, Glenny and park officials stress they do not know if the online rumored events are fact or fiction.

“I can’t say with 100% certainty one way or the other, that’s why I’m not willing to make that comment on whether it’s real or not real,” said Glenny.

“That’s the funny thing about rumors. We don’t know. So, we’re taking it seriously,” said Martz.

Glenny said the Gettysburg police station has received ‘dozens’ of calls. But, he stressed law enforcement is aware of the situation as well as agencies on the state and federal level. He said everyone is taking appropriate measures to manage any threats to people and/or property.

Glenny, along with Cumberland Township Police Chief Donald Boehs and Gettysburg National Military Park Chief Ranger Joseph Lachowski, asks residents and visitors to call their local law enforcement agencies if they observe any suspicious activity.

“What’s being reported on facebook right now is a peaceful demonstration and that’s what we’d hope it would be if it materializes,” said Charles Gable, Gettysburg borough manager. Gable said Gettysburg will host a fireworks show July 4th and community leaders hope people will come out to celebrate. He added, “we want people from different backgrounds to come here and appreciate the history.” null

Texas police ask public for help after veteran’s service dog stolen

Melissa Leon

Police in Texas are asking for the public’s help after a local veteran’s service dog was stolen last month.

Someone took
Rosalyn, a 2-year-old mastiff, from Emmanuel Bernadin’s home after
breaking in on Oct. 19, according to the Arlington Police Department.

Roslyn, or Roz for short, is Bernadin’s service animal and medical alert dog, police said.

The perpetrator also stole “several other items,” the department said. But Bernadin told Fox 4 News he just wants his companion back.

“She’s the sweetest thing,” he said. “The days are just really hard without her.”

VETERAN SAVES DOG IN AFGHANISTAN WAR ZONE, SNEAKS HIM HOME TO SAFETY

Arlington Police Lt. Chris Cook said there are no suspects or witnesses at this time.

“People
don’t just steal dogs,” he told Fox 4. “It’s just not a common theme,
so we’re kind of baffled as to who would think in their right mind,
‘We’re not only going to take your property, but we’re going to steal
your dog.'”

Police are asking anyone who might have information to
call the Arlington Police Department at 817-459-6482 or leave an
anonymous tip with Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.

HOW TO FIND YOUR LOST DOG, ACCORDING TO A PET DETECTIVE

Bernadin, an Iraq War veteran, told Fox 4 he was with a friend when he got a call from a neighbor telling him his sliding glass door was open.

He went home and found Roz was gone. Jewelry and electronics were also stolen, he said.

“I deal with a lot of night terrors,” Bernadin told Fox 4. “It’s very hard
to turn off the conditions of war, and Roz is there to wake me up at
times when I shouldn’t be alone by myself asleep.”

The veteran said he enlisted in the Navy in 2007 and served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, medically retiring after his second tour.

Five Wildlife Rangers and their driver killed by Poachers · Change.org

Petition update

Apr 17, 2018 — Virunga National Park in Congo is about the size of California. It is a poacher’s paradise. Backed and financed by Chinese middlemen they have grown into heavily armed militias.
More than 130 park rangers have been killed in the park since 1996.
While Under Armour and Safari Club International promotes the hunting of wild animals in Africa, these rangers risk their lives trying to protect them.
The more people in the West become aware of these situations and are able to connect the dots, the sooner all this barbarities will evolve to something better. Better laws, better ethics. Less killing.

New Bill Would Let Cops Enter Your Home Without a Warrant and Kill Your Dog

Joshua Krause
Activist Post http://www.activistpost.com/2015/01/new-bill-would-let-cops-enter-your-home.htmlIn light of recent events, it’s become apparent that the public’s opinion of law enforcement is rapidly falling apart. Technology is partly to blame for giving the average citizen the ability to film police encounters at a moment’s notice, and post these videos on the Internet for the world to see. There’s always been bad cops, but now their antics are being exposed more than ever.

Of course, that’s not even the half of it. The police wouldn’t get any bad exposure if they weren’t caught doing terrible things in the first place. A cursory look through a Facebook group like Copblock will give you page after page of cops being stupid, trigger happy, petty, and negligent (and those are just the links gathered from the last 24…
