Sign Petition: In This Country, Saving a Dog Locked in a Hot Car Could Land You in Big Trouble.

Summer is upon us, and this summer is going to be a doozy. In fact, with June 2019 having been declared the world’s hottest month ever and July already on track to beat it. We are in for heat that, if you aren’t careful, could be deadly. And not just to humans. Our pets too are in danger of overheating when they are just left outside. But what could kill them even faster is being left in a locked car by a careless owner on a hot summer day.

Even in cooler temperatures leaving a dog in a car could be deadly. When it’s just (70°F/ 21°C) degrees outside the thermostat can rocket to (90°F / 32°C) inside the cabin. A temperature that could quickly turn fatal for our beloved pets.

But if a good Samaritan tries to save a dog locked in a hot car, they could get in hot water. You could be subjected to an investigation for criminal damage and be prosecuted. Punishment if found guilty could be harsh.

That makes no sense, no one should be punished for trying to do what is right.

The safety of our pets, like the safety of our children, shouldn’t be negotiable. And no one should have to risk going to jail to save a life. The U.K. needs a law that guarantees that all citizens have the right to save an animal when it is locked in an “auto oven”. Please sign this petition and show your support for a national hot dog law in the U.K. this year.

African-Americans Sued Mississippi Company for Discriminating Against Them in Favor of Latinos; ICE Raid Removed Almost 600 Illegal Latino Workers

The named Plaintiffs herein all are non-Latino, all applied for employment at Howard Industries’ Laurel, Mississippi transformer manufacturing plant during the relevant time period, and all were not hired by Howard Industries due to their race.” (Veronica Cook, Yoland Phelps, Charlyn Dozier, and Seleatha McGee et al. vs. Howard Industries, Feb. 25, 2011, CIVIL ACTION NO: 2:11CV41KS-MTP)

The suit was filed 8 years ago, but was related to an ICE raid 11 years ago. These African American Mississippi ladies had applied repeatedly for jobs at Howard Industries, over a period of years. They were finally employed only after an ICE raid. While one news article on the topic is very similar to ones that we’ve read this week, this 2008 article mentions that the legal workers “applauded” as the illegal workers were arrested. In fact, Federal officials said that they were tipped off by a union member several…

UPDATE: 1:35 P.M. ET Aug. 10: NBC Universal has pulled the Sept. 27 release of the film “The Hunt” but still plans to distribute it at a later date.

The studio released a statement on Saturday, saying: “While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for ‘The Hunt,’ after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film,” Deadline Hollywood reports.

Advertisements have been pulled from an upcoming satirical horror film in which elites hunt and kill “deplorables” amid intensifying political hostilities. The decision was made to pull the ads but not the movie after three mass shootings were committed this summer.

The plot of the NBC Universal movie “The Hunt,” which is slated for release on Sept. 27, follows wealthy thrill-seekers who board a private jet and fly off to a secluded five-star resort where their mission is to hunt and kill so-called deplorable Americans.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC’s Universal is now reconsidering its ad strategy following the mass shootings at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California, the Walmart shopping center in El Paso, Texas, and at a nightclub in Dayton, Ohio. The studio’s reevaluation came amid reports that sports network ESPN had removed a trailer for the movie that was previously approved for broadcast.

“The violent, R-rated film from producer Jason Blum’s Blumhouse [production company] follows a dozen MAGA types who wake up in a clearing and realize they are being stalked for sport by elite liberals,” The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Characters in the movie that are considered prey for the hunters are referred to as deplorables, a term former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used to describe supporters of presidential candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

“Did anyone see what our ratf—-er-in-chief just did?” one character in the movie asks, making an apparent reference to President Trump.

“At least the hunt’s coming up. Nothing better than going out to the manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables,” another character replies.

“The Hunt,” which features Oscar winner Hillary Swank, was originally titled “Red State vs. Blue State.” Among the deplorables in the film — who were pre-selected to be murdered — were those who voiced opposition to abortion.

“The script for ‘The Hunt’ features the red-state characters wearing trucker hats and cowboy shirts, with one bragging about owning seven guns because it’s his constitutional right. The blue-state characters — some equally adept with firearms — explain that they picked their targets because they expressed anti-choice positions or used the N-word on Twitter,” The Hollywood Reporter added.

The outlet noted that some studios didn’t want to touch the movie because of its content and cited a filmmaker who questioned the wisdom of making a film of this kind given recent events. An NBC Universal executive said in response that the film is satire, and is intended to show “what a stupid, crazy world we live in” and that the movie may now prove to be even more powerful.

After conservative news outlets reported about the movie’s themes and its ads being pulled, the left-leaning website Snopes — that claims to fact-check news reports — gave an “unproven” rating to the claim that the film will feature liberal or left-wing characters hunting Trump supporters for sport.

“How exactly did anyone think this was a good idea even before the El Paso and Dayton shootings?” political author Matt Margolis asked in an op-ed published by PJ Media, referencing violent attacks in the past few years on Republican politicians, such as Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

In a segment on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” Catholic author and journalist Raymond Arroyo said the movie is disgusting and should be pulled, particularly in light of the ongoing tension surrounding gun violence.

No, ICE’s Mississippi Raids Are Not an Outrage

Earlier this week, ICE conducted a sweep of illegal immigrants in Mississippi, arresting nearly 700 individuals. This development has been cover as a tragic, outraged, anguish-causing, “secretive” affront by many in the press — with images of tearful children, who were temporarily separated from their parents, driving much of the coverage. This appeal to emotion sidesteps any serious discussion of whether the”textbook” raid was appropriate or not.

Petition: Ban Brooke Houts from YouTube

Brooke Houts, a YouTuber with 320,000+ subscribers, has recently come under fire after accidentally uploading raw footage of a video she was making with her Doberman, Sphinx.

The video, posted to YouTube.com on August 6, shows her hitting the dog, smacking the dog, pinning him to the ground and shouting “NO!,” and spitting on the dog.

The video was quickly taken down and replaced with the edited version, but many had already seen it by the time she took it down, and the footage can still be found online.

Houts has since uploaded her attempt at an apology, in which she claims “On the day in particular that the video was filmed, and actually this past week, things in my outside life have been less than exceptional.”

Does having a bad day excuse hitting your dog? How about pinning your dog to the ground and spitting on him? Does anything excuse this?

This wasn’t a mistake. No one hits and spits on a living creature by mistake. If this is what Houts is comfortable doing on camera, what could she be doing to her dog off camera?

Multiple videos on Houts’s YouTube channel focus on Sphinx, and she even has created an Instagram account for the dog. This would be fine if she properly cared for him, but when you witness her mistreatment of her dog, it seems that Sphinx was only ever an accessory for Houts to show off and a tool to use to gain YouTube fame.

Of course, the best outcome for this would be that Sphinx would be rehomed and Houts would be charged with animal abuse. Unfortunately, this is a lot to ask for, so instead I ask for the bare minimum to be done: ban Brooke Houts from YouTube. Delete her channel, her videos, any reupload of her abuse, and never allow her to have a channel or any sort of influence ever again.

YouTube – To allow Brooke Houts to continue on your platform after blatantly violating YouTube guidelines and proving herself to be a violent, dangerous individual towards animals is the same as condoning her behavior. A person like her should never be allowed to have influence or an audience, and keeping up her channel and videos reflects very poorly back onto YouTube itself.

By allowing Houts’s videos and channel to remain online, YouTube is essentially normalizing the mistreatment of animals, particularly for the young and impressionable viewers that are a majority on YouTube’s website. To see Houts escape from this drama with her channel intact with no punishment from the platform in which she used to broadcast her abuse also creates a risk for copycat behavior by those desperate for YouTube fame and attention.
