Potentially Dangerous Impacts Of Cutting Off NIST Radio Time Signals Need To Be Evaluated Before The US Congress Cuts Off Funding; Contact A Member Of Congress Or Two Or More

Mining Awareness +

Contact Members of Congress, asap, and ask for funding for WWVB, WWV, and WWVH to be restored to the NIST (Commerce) 2019 budget, at least until an impact study can be done.

If your member is not worth bothering with, contact another one that you trust. If you can’t decide, start with US Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts. For the House, the Ranking Member for Homeland Security, Bennie Thompson, is worth contacting. http://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative https://www.senate.gov/reference/common/faq/How_to_correspond_senators.htm
And, yes, WWVB is being shutdown, along with WWV and WWVH, unless restored to budget.

There are a range of unknowns as to what the impacts are of cutting off WWVB, WWV, and WWVH radio stations-signals, especially for crucial infrastructure/critical services. But, unlike for the year 2000 computer-internet problem, there has apparently been no study, no planning, no notification. It’s not even clear if the cuts will start as soon as the budget is passed, or…

We want justice for Benjamin, murdered by this madman!

We continue to see cases of animal abuse in Argentina and nothing changes because the penalties for animal abuse are a joke. Fines of a few hundred pesos for murdering an animal, or some hours of community work, but never jail, never send these murderers to jail, and as they know it is, they continue unpunished killing them because they know that it is never going to spend nothing.

In Salta a man killed a dog with a machete and for that reason we ask that he be arrested and that they begin a judicial process so that he will be imprisoned. SEND HIM TO PRISON, not to pay a fine or do a few hours of community service collecting trash in a neighborhood, NO, SEND HIM TO PRISON!

This guy not only murdered the dog but also threatened the witnesses who filmed the dying dog and the face of this murderer when he had him grabbed by the leather while he was cutting him with the machete.

Obviously this man is free, because in this country nobody who mistreats or kills an animal ends up imprisoned, and for that we have to change our way of thinking and our Laws.

1992 NOAA Study Concluded A Severe Hurricane Could Induce A Storm Surge 6.4 Ft Above Brunswick Nuclear Power Station’s Design Basis Flood So NRC Commissioned A New Study To Prove That The Design Basis Was Good Enough – But It’s Not

Mining Awareness +

It has been known that Brunswick Nuclear Power Station’s Design Basis storm surge-flood level was too low in the event of a severe hurricane since at least 1992. The NRC and the utility have continued to ignore this fact. In 1992 NOAA found “that a severe hurricane could induce a surge elevation of 28.4 ft MSL at the BNP site, or 6.4 ft above the plant’s design basis flood level.” Apparently not liking the result, the NRC got the Army Corps of Engineers to do a study, based on assumptions of a hurricane with far from the maximum possible winds. Already in 1969 Hurricane Camille had made US landfall with sustained winds of 190 mph. However the Army Corps study assumes a hurricane with 128 mph winds at the site. There are, of course, additional factors in storm surge: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2018/09/14/introduction-to-storm-surges/

Emergency Declared At Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant In North Carolina… All Personnel Blocked From Entering The Facility As “Hot Shutdown” Under Way

Truth To Power

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has declared a state of emergency for both units of the Brunswick nuclear power facilities in North Carolina. An “unusual event” has occurred which is interfering with the ongoing “hot shutdown” of the nuclear power plants (a process which takes several weeks to complete).

Indonesia’s last land-animal circus announces end of their cruel travelling shows

animalsasia.org
18 September 2018

Oriental Circus publicly announce they will stop using animals in their travelling circus, raising hopes a government ban may be imminent.

For animals in Indonesia’s Oriental Circus, life is an endless round of drudgery, and cruelty.

Since 1967, the troupe has forced animals including elephants, tigers, birds and snakes to travel all over the country in cramped conditions spending the majority of their lives chained and unable to express any natural behaviours.

But now the circus has surprised many by publicly declaring they will stop using animals in travelling shows. They are Indonesia’s last travelling troupe exclusively featuring land animals in their performances. The country’s remaining travelling circuses continue to use aquatic animals.

Oriental Circus is currently performing for three weeks in Solo, Central Java with the company’s website announcing these shows will be the animals’ last on the road.

Animals Asia’s Animal Welfare Director Dave Neale said:

“We have campaigned against the Oriental Circus for many years and were delighted when we initially heard they were planning to stop the cruelty. Now, we have confirmation that the travelling shows will end and there are rumours an upcoming government ban on travelling animal circuses may be the reason.

“While there has been no official verification of this, if true this would be a huge step forward for animal welfare in Indonesia. Pivotally it could end Indonesia’s shameful travelling dolphin circuses, which sees dolphins loaded onto planes to be transported between islands.”

When Animals Asia’s Indonesia partner, Scorpion Foundation, visited Oriental Circus in Cikampek, West Java on 8 September they found that the circus was cancelling some shows due to the lack of customers.

Oriental Circus is owned by the Taman Safari Park and it is likely that the travelling animals will be sent to this facility when the circus ends.

Dave said:

“Taman Safari Park’s welfare standards fall far below what we expect, but the reality is it is probably the best available facility for these animals in Indonesia right now. Ending the performances, and particularly the conditions of travel would be a huge improvement to the animals’ lives.”

Animals Asia has opposed Indonesia’s travelling dolphin circus, known as “Sirkus Lumba-lumba”, since 2017. Nearly 40,000 people signed a petition asking Sriwijawa Air to end their cruel dolphin flights, but the airline ignored the calls for compassion.

The travelling circus dolphins are owned by Ancol Dreamland and Wersit Seguni Indonesia which also operate dolphin circus shows at their static facilities.

Dave said:

“Indonesia’s travelling dolphin circus simply must end for the country to have any form of accountability in regard to animal welfare. While many of the individual animals would likely have to continue performing in static facilities, at least it would show the country has some respect for welfare as well as helping to reduce demand for such shows and therefore the amount of wild capture for the entertainment industry.”

Animals Asia will continue to update supporters as this story develops.

Petition: Shelters in Hurricane Affected Areas May Have to Kill Their Animals If They Don’t Get Help

recipient: Governor Roy Cooper

33,106 SUPPORTERS – 35,000 GOAL

It happens every year. When hurricanes come to shore and evacuation warnings are given, people pack up and head out in the hopes of avoiding disaster. But as people leave their homes and cities, they sometimes find themselves forced to leave their pets behind. Many of these animals end up in local shelters who quickly become overwhelmed by the sheer number of new pets they had to accept.

When a shelter usually reaches capacity, they can often rely on locals to open their homes to homeless cats and dogs. But if the entire city is evacuating because of a storm, fewer people means fewer chances for adoption.

That’s just what’s happening now at the Pender County Animal Shelter, an animal rescue organization in North Carolina currently in the path of Hurricane Florence. The shelter says they are overcrowded and may have to begin euthanizing animals to make space.

Clearly, for any animal shelter, killing the animals they care for is the last resort, but if no one can take these pets in, or they can’t get the resources they need, they will have no other choice.

While North Caroline officials are working hard to ensure their human residents survive the storm, they should also take their feathered and four-legged citizens into consideration as well. One way to do so would be to provide resources to affected county animal shelters, like the one in Pender County, so they don’t have to put down any of the animals they were hoping to save.

Please sign this petition and tell Governor Roy Cooper to take immediate action to aid animal shelters in the eye of Hurricane Florence. Together, we can help save hundreds of pets in need.

Baby Squirrels Tangled in Plastic Saved by Wisconsin Veterinarians

Baby Squirrels Tangled in Plastic Saved by Wisconsin Veterinarians

3-4 minutes

There have been growing concerns about the impact that the 8 million tons of plastic that enter the world’s oceans each year have on marine life.

But that oceanic focus doesn’t mean land animals are safe from plastic pollution.

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at the Wisconsin Humane Society published a post on its Facebook page Friday detailing what had happened when a “caring finder” alerted the center to five young squirrels in an unusual predicament, KMSP TV reported.

“The tails of these five juvenile Gray Squirrel siblings had become hopelessly entangled with the long-stemmed grasses and strips of plastic their mother used as nest material, and with each other! A predicament that, without careful and quick intervention, would at the least cost each of these squirrels their very important tail (needed for balance and warmth), and likely their lives,” the post said.41697262_1955468024510398_6519925720158830592_n

The veterinarians first had to anesthetize the squirrels all at once.

“You can imagine how wiggly and unruly (and nippy!) this frightened, distressed ball of squirrelly energy was,” the post said.

The vets then worked on untangling the “Gordian Knot” of tails.

“It was impossible to tell whose tail was whose, and we were increasingly concerned because all of them had suffered from varying degrees of tissue damage to their tails caused by circulatory impairment,” the post said.

It took 20 minutes for the vets to use scissors to cut away at the grass and plastic and free the squirrels. The squirrels then began to recover from anesthesia.

41774660_1955468111177056_5451996627587825664_n

The vets said they would watch the squirrels for a few days to make sure they did not develop tail necrosis caused by a lack of blood flow, but one day after the procedure, they seemed to be doing well.

“Now, one day later, they are all bright-eyed, and three of the five are ‘bushy-tailed,'” the post said.

According to the most recent data provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 34.5 million tons of plastic were produced in the U.S. in 2015. Only 9.1 percent of that was recycled. 5.4 million tons were burned and the vast majority, 26 million tons, went into landfills.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) wrote that it often has to rescue animals from littered items.

“Plastic items become intestinal blockages; baited fishing lines entangle limbs, hindering movement and causing dismemberment; and aluminum cans with leftover soda or beer turn into razor-sharp traps,” HSUS wrote in a 2010 blog post.

Across the ocean, the UK Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals estimated it got an average of 14 calls a day about animals endangered by litter.

Your Member of Congress Can Help Protect Forage Fish Like River Herring and Shad

e-activist.com

Forage fish like river herring and shad are a key part of the marine food web, providing food for commercially and recreationally important species such as tuna, cod, and striped bass, as well as for sharks, dolphins, whales, and birds. These fish are essential to healthy fisheries, stable marine ecosystems, and the communities that depend on them.

Unfortunately, demand for forage fish—which are used to make fertilizer, livestock feed, and consumer products like cosmetics—is increasing worldwide. Right now, much of the U.S. does not have measures in place to avoid drastic declines in forage populations and the resulting negative impacts on the marine ecosystem and associated coastal economies.

For example, despite significant work to improve conservation of river herring and shad in the rivers where they spawn, there are no biologically-based catch limits in place for these fish to promote their sustainable management in the ocean.
Ask your member of Congress to introduce legislation to protect forage fish.

To make sure that there are enough forage fish to fulfill their essential ecological roles, now and into the future, please urge your member of Congress to introduce legislation that would authorize fishery managers to establish stronger conservation measures for these crucial fish when they are in ocean waters.

Forage fish are vital for a healthy ocean and thriving coastal communities—they should be protected now.

This Incredible Man Bought and Renovated a School Bus to Transport Shelter Animals From Hurricane Zones to Safety!

onegreenplanet.org
Kelly Wang

It isn’t every day you get to hear about someone truly heroic. And we’re sad that it’s Hurricane Florence that is the reason we’re hearing this news. But when a pet lover buys and converts an old school bus to rescue animals left after others have evacuated, we have to share the story. Trust us! This one will put a smile on your face.

Tony Alsup, a trucker from Greenback, Tennessee, drove into South Carolina last week with one intention; to evacuate the dogs and cats left behind in shelters. He drove to shelters in North Myrtle Beach, Dillon, Georgetown, and Orangeburg, rescuing 53 dogs and 11 cats with the intention of transferring them to a waiting shelter in Foley, Alabama, safe from the storm.

Alsup has been doing this for around a year now. When Hurricane Harvey was approaching Houston, Alsup answered an online plea for anyone to help evacuate animals from shelters in the storm’s path.
He volunteered to pick them up in his semi-truck, and the rescues assumed that would mean he could take dozens of animals … unfortunately, he only had the front end of the truck – not the massive trailer. Alsup knew he needed something bigger, so he bought a school bus and immediately drove to Texas to fill it with pets for the first time.

Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling, outdoor
And he’s been doing this ever since, driving into areas about to be hit by a hurricane to get animals out of harm’s way. The bus is full of animal transport cages, water, and food to keep all the passengers happy on board!

Here he is, with some of his four-legged charges, who might be confused but are, at least, safe and dry. Alsup refers to these animals as the “leftovers” because they are the ones that get left behind!

Alsup said, “It’s so easy for people to adopt the small pets and the cuties and the cuddly. We take on the ones that deserve a chance even though they are big and a little ugly. But I love big dogs, and we find places for them.” These dogs en route to Foley will be taken to shelters across the country once Hurricane Florence has passed. They’ll all be ready to be adopted thanks to the kindness of this hero!

We are always happy to hear about Good Samaritans rescuing animals left behind during storms. And we are even happier when we hear about measures put in place to protect these pets before the storms even hit. What Alsup has done here with his bus rescue has wedged a special place in our hearts. Thank you, Tony, we need more heroes like you in the world!

While Thousands of People Evacuated From Hurricane Florence, Millions of Animals Drowned on Factory Farms

Estelle Rayburn

In the wake of Hurricane Florence, countless North Carolina families have packed up their most valuable belongings and evacuated their homes in the interest of their own safety. Most fleeing residents with pets have done everything in their power to bring their dogs, cats, and other animal companions with them or, if doing so wasn’t possible, arranged for them to go somewhere safe during the storm.

On the contrary, the millions of animals trapped inside of North Carolina’s factory farm operations haven’t been given this very basic right to be protected from a horrific death by drowning.
Rather than being treated like the living creatures they are and evacuated along with the majority of the humans and pets in the path of Hurricane Florence, livestock have remained confined inside metal cages with no chance to escape as the state has experienced extreme flooding.

These photos were shared by Woodstock Farm Sanctuary via Steve Helber of the AP, and they illustrate the state that factory farms have been left in. Woodstock writes, “There are nine million pigs across the state, babies living their entire lives inside giant sheds. Mothers in metal cages, unable to save themselves or their piglets.”

At one of the state’s industrial meat production facilities, Sanderson Farms, a whopping 1.7 million chickens have already died, and this number is expected to continue climbing and to include pigs and turkeys as well as flooding persists and farmers remain unable to access the buildings where the surviving animals are stuck suffering without adequate food and water.

This is an absolute tragedy, yet instead of being regretful regarding the massive loss of animal life, all the company seems to be concerned with is how much money it will lose. In a press release, Sanderson Farms described the millions of dead chickens as being “destroyed as a result of flooding,” as if they were disposable objects rather than living, breathing beings.

For this factory farming operation and the numerous others across the state that left countless livestock to drown or starve to death during the storm, innocent farm animals losing their lives is simply seen as a financial loss.

As Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary described the upsetting situation in a Facebook post, “Sad but predictable … Farm animals are the most abused of all, and there wasn’t even an effort to relocate them, which would have been logistically difficult.”

He went on, “At the very least, factory farms should not be located in areas prone to flooding, and tax dollars should [not] be used to reimburse this cruel industry, which ironically and wrongly opened their statement by announcing that they didn’t experience loss of life in the wake of the storm. Please note, chickens and other farm animals are living animals, and their deaths very much represent a loss of life.”

We couldn’t agree more. Quite frankly, it’s difficult for us to fathom how people can be so nonchalant about animals dying en masse. But then again, these creatures would have eventually met a cruel fate at the slaughterhouse even if they hadn’t died in a flood. It’s difficult to say which is worse.

Try as we might to ignore it, the unpleasant reality is that our insatiable appetite for meat and dairy is what is fueling this inhumane industry. The huge demand for cheap animal protein in the U.S. has led to the rise of factory farming and the resultant disturbing treatment of animals as commodities rather than as the intelligent, precious beings they truly are. We also have to acknowledge the horrific irony that industrial animal agriculture contributes immensely to climate change, which is making these huge storms more frequent and powerful, and sadly, in every scenerio, it is the animals who pay the worst price.

But it doesn’t have to be like this. We can all help dismantle this industry and bring about a more sustainable and humane future by swapping out meat and dairy for plant-based alternatives.

Petition: Help Rescue Abandoned Dolphin and Penguins

Help Rescue Abandoned Dolphin and Penguins

A dolphin called Honey, 46 penguins, and hundreds of fish and reptiles have been abandoned at Inubosaki Marine Park Aquarium in Choshi after it shut down earlier this year. Former employees are reportedly feeding the animals, but Honey has been left imprisoned in a tiny, filthy pool with green, cloudy water, and penguins have been spotted in unsafe enclosures littered with debris.

Honey—who was captured in 2005 near Taiji during Japan’s annual dolphin slaughter—is growing increasingly frustrated and stressed from being deprived of companionship, the opportunity to swim freely in the ocean, and everything else that’s natural and important to her. If she’s transferred to another aquarium, she will likely spend the rest of her life in a tiny tank, being forced to perform circus-style tricks for food.

That’s why it’s vital that all the animals imprisoned at the run-down Inubosaki Marine Park Aquarium be released to sanctuaries, where they would be protected and free from harassment. PETA stands ready to help with this.

Please urge the governor of Chiba Prefecture and the executive director of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums to take immediate action to transfer all the animals suffering at the derelict facility to sanctuaries, where they can be cared for.

Petition: Zoning Approval For EliteK9K and Aladdin Khalifa · Change.org

Zoning Approval For EliteK9K and Aladdin Khalifa · Change.org
Jimmy Brennan started this petition to Mayor of Amhurstburg Ontario Aldo Dicarlo and 4 others
4-5 minutes

Local Man Seeking to Reinvest in Community Facing Slanderous Opposition from 2 Residents and Town Council.

Windsorite Aladdin Khalifa returned to Essex County after 2 decades overseas. He’s invested millions of dollars into the Amherstburg community where he and his family reside. His plan is to open a state-of-the art dog facility and he has applied to Town Council for a zoning permit, however, two residents are busy making false statements and creating mischief to oppose his application. In the meantime, Aladdin has huge support from his community that want his “State Of The Art” kennel to train their dogs, and to provide jobs. (Aladdin’s supporters believe in Essex County’s goals of attracting new wealth and investment to benefit residents.)

Aladdin Khalifa grew up in Windsor, Ontario in a small downtown house. When he was 19 years old, he left Windsor to pursue his dreams to make it big. Most of his dreams came true , he worked hard in the oil and gas industry, saved his money, met and married his childhood sweetheart, together they have a family with 4 beautiful children ages 2-21 years old. But Aladdin still nursed two dreams – first, to return home and raise his children in the quiet beauty of Essex County, and second, being a dog-lover, to build a “State Of The Art “dog kennel and training facility.
Two years ago Aladdin chased his dreams and returned to the Windsor area. In 2016 he bought a house and 50 acres of land in rural Amherstberg and spent millions building his dog facilities, however, two residents are protesting the opening of his facility. These residents allege that the dogs will be noisy, can escape and harm someone, and that the dogs waste will pollute their adjacent properties.
Am800 reported that no dog noise is heard on the property, and attested to the fact that Aladdin had built 8 foot steel fences and ground guards around the property so none of his personal pets can escape, or dig under, these fences alone cost a whopping $1.5 million dollars, all of this in good faith and to be a good neighbour. As for the dog waste, Aladdin feeds his dog a homemade specialty raw food diet, kept in a custom-built walk in freezer, that is organic enabling the waste to be composted.
The organic food is purchased from local suppliers and farmers, his weekly purchases are to the tune of approximately $12,000.00

In fact, Aladdin has been a generous presence from day 1.

He has spent in excess of $7million (seven million dollars) renovating his home and created the “Ritz Carton” of kennels all the while utilizing and employing local contractors. His property and home have more than 24 local people on payroll – and will have more when his dog facility is green lighted .
Aladdin has donated to local community events such as the Belle Vue House restoration project ,the Amherstburg’s Harvest Festival, as well as participating in Woofa-Roo. Despite his setbacks he continues to donate to his community as well as keep his staff employed.

Aladdin has invited the public and town councilors to visit his property anytime, and he will personally give them a tour on his golf carts.

Residents supporting Aladdin have come out in droves on social media. “We need people like Aladdin in this town” said one, while another said “We need a top class dog facility and training.” A third comment read “his dogs can’t get out and anyway they are super friendly. In this country, an escaped horse is way more dangerous and is not kept anywhere near as secure as Aladdin’s friendly dogs”. Aladdin has had more than 500,000 social media followers that check in daily to follow his pups and see them ride the zip lines or run with parachutes attached to there bodies for exercise.

If you support Aladdin please sign this petition below:
I support Aladdin Khalifa’s plan to start his business of a premium dog boarding and training facility on his property in Amherstburg Ontario, and his bringing of jobs and investment into the Amherstburg area. I support the zoning variance allowing 160 metres distance between his property and adjacent properties.

Petition: Defend the Endangered Species Act

IMG_20180915_203945

act.oceana.org

The Interior and Commerce Departments recently proposed fundamental changes to the landmark Endangered Species Act regulations. This is the biggest threat to these rules and the at-risk marine life that depend on the Endangered Species Act in decades. If implemented as proposed, this regulatory overhaul will put Southern sea otters, loggerhead sea turtles, Florida manatees, and other at-risk species in even greater peril.

That’s why we need 30,000 Wavemakers to flood the Federal Register with comments on the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act regulations to show that we won’t stand back and sacrifice endangered species to benefit of special interests.

Tell President Trump: Don’t weaken the protections for threatened and endangered species.

Dear Secretary Zinke and Secretary Ross,

The Endangered Species Act is a landmark piece of legislation that was passed by Congress with significant bipartisan support and signed by President Nixon in 1973. Widespread consensus regarding the incredible importance of protecting vulnerable species continues to this day. As of 2018, the vast majority of Americans support the Endangered Species Act. Since passage of the law, over a thousand plant and animal species have been protected. Now is not the time to remove these vital protections for threatened and endangered species by weakening the regulations. Without these important protections, incredible endangered species such as the North Atlantic Right Whale and certain salmon species could be more rapidly driven towards extinction. Furthermore, threatened species, such as the Southern Sea Otter, which is currently recovering under protection of the Endangered Species Act, would lose important safeguards, potentially leading to their decline.

Some of the proposed regulatory changes would fundamentally change the spirit of the Endangered Species Act regulations by reducing protections for the species that most need help to recover. For example, an essential component of the law is that there may be no economic considerations in the listing process; however, the proposed changes to the regulations allow economic considerations to be included when deciding whether to list a species as either “threatened” or “endangered.”

The Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to eliminate the rule automatically extending certain Endangered Species Act protections to threatened species. Rather than rescind this longstanding rule, which would weaken prohibitions on killing, harassing or harming threatened species, the Fish and Wildlife Service should maintain the rule. Furthermore, the National Marine Fisheries Service should adopt the rule. Coordination along these lines will protect threatened species and prevent them from becoming endangered.

The proposed changes make it more difficult to protect species impacted by climate change. By carving out climate change threats to critical habitat and narrowing the definition of the “foreseeable future,” the Services are able to ignore climate change impacts on species, including warming temperatures sea level rise, melting glaciers and reduced snowpack.

In addition to critical habitat, unoccupied habitat can be essential to the conservation of species. The proposed changes also make it harder to designate unoccupied critical habitat for protected species, which often need room to roam and adapt to changes.

To determine whether a species is in “jeopardy” under the Endangered Species Act, a crucial starting point is to determine the level of peril a species already faces prior to any proposed agency action that may cause even greater harm to a species. Under the proposed changes, however, “there is no ‘baseline jeopardy’ status even for the most imperiled species,” a position which runs counter to federal court rulings. Federal courts have also required consideration of the “tipping point” beyond which a species could not recover. Neither of these important analyses would be required under the proposed changes to the regulations, thereby obscuring the effects of an agency’s action upon the overall recovery potential of the species.

The proposed regulatory changes make it easier for the Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service to delist a species, thereby eliminating protections for recovering species. The Services will be able to delist a species without demonstrating that the recovery plan criteria were met. So, a vulnerable species could be delisted even if it has not fully recovered.

Finally, the proposed changes to the rules would weaken the consultation process, a key aspect of the way the Endangered Species Act is implemented, requiring federal agencies to consult with the experts in the Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service. The range of agency actions that must undergo consultation is unduly narrowed, and deadlines are proposed that would pressure the Services to make hasty decisions regarding the protection of species.

I stand in strong opposition to these proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act regulations. Please do not weaken protections for threatened and endangered species.

Josh Groban’s New Song is all about having to find the light during the darkest times of life

positiveoutlooksblog.com

There will be times in life that you will feel alone regardless of the number of people around you. There will be times in which you would ask yourself, ‘what are you here for?’ And there will definitely be countless of times that problems would overwhelm you.

If you have already felt these ‘unwanted’ emotions, well I’ve got news for you! You are not alone! You are not the only one in this world who feels lonely for a reason you cannot simply put your fingers on.

Josh Groban, the 37-year-old multi-awarded music artist best known for his debut performance of The Prayer with Celine Dion, knows how it’s like to feel lost in life. Though the gifted music artist did not further elaborate on it, Josh Groban chose to illustrate his struggles in life through his newest song, “River.”

According to PEOPLE’s Brian Bowen Smith, Josh Groban’s inspiration for his newest single is all about having to find the light during the darkest times of life.

“River.” He wanted to discuss the hardships of life and reassure his fans that they are never alone!

“Whenever we have dark times in our lives, whether we suffer from depression, or addiction, or anxiety, or even just having a really bad day, the worst is that it feels like we are suffering alone… Far too many people feel this way…

I hope this song and video are a reminder that it’s the simple steps, the smallest gestures, that can pull us back to the light. It’s those things for me. Find your ‘river.’” The singer-songwriter shared with PEOPLE.

True to his words, it is very important to find your ‘river’ when you are feeling lost. There are times in which even the simplest act of getting up, taking a bath, and going to work seem like a herculean task.

And sometimes one may feel embarrassed of sharing their feelings of incapability of accomplishing these activities for fear of being misunderstood. Josh Groban hopes that the new song he had written would inspire people like this to find their light and motivation in life.5-5.png

Josh Groban’s newest song River proves that he is not the only one who felt this way. In fact, the ‘River’ is so relatable it touched hundred thousand hearts and brought people to tears.

“This song is so touching on so many levels… I could really feel that it resonates with what I’m currently passing through. Thank you so much, Josh! God bless your soul!” Lara Specter, a Youtube user, shared how she finds the song relatable through the comment sections.

“I literally bawled my eyes out every time I listen to this. Josh’s words always give me the comfort I need to keep going, and I’m forever grateful for that.” Xoxasha, another Youtube user expressed how Josh Groban’s newest song warmed her heart and made her cry.

“‘River’ is going to help so many people, bringing hope and light to the darkness. Thank you, Josh.” Another Youtube user, Pamela Mayfield said, expressing her gratitude to Josh Groban’s powerful song.

Watch the official video of River, Josh Groban’s newest song, that is touching the hearts of people across the globe and bringing everyone who listens to it to tears. We hope you are all able to find your river! Share your thoughts under the comment section, we would love to hear how his song resonated with your heart!

Petition: All Animal Abusers To Be Registered And Banned From Ever Keeping Animals · Change.org

PROTECT ALL WILDLIFE started this petition to Michael Gove

Abuse against animals is increasing dramatically and includes domestic, wild and captive (such as circuses and zoos). Very rarely are offenders, when found guilty, barred from keeping or being involved with animals. I ask that it becomes law that an Animal Abuse Register is brought into place and that all offenders are placed on this register. I also ask that offenders are barred from keeping or working with animals for a minimum period of 10 years if not lifelong.

Many studies reveal that children who torture or kill animals are likely to show violence towards people when they grow up. Re-classifying animal abuse will aid law enforcement and the FBI in quantifying and reporting incidents of animal abuse.

Victor “Buddy” Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County SPCA said “People are taking animal cruelty more and more seriously. It’s a violent crime, and if it goes unchecked, it leads to bigger things.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that animal abuse will now be prosecuted as a “crime against society”. And importantly, animal cruelty would be reported as a distinct category, meaning animal abusers fall into the same group as arsonists and murderers.

Tracking Animal Cruelty: FBI Collecting Data on Crimes Against Animals

This petition is asking that those found guilty of ANY abuse against animals are barred from ever keeping animals again and are placed on an Animal Abusers Register.

Petition: STOP Bear Grylls Exploiting Marine Animals at his Adventure Park Experience · Change.org

Emily Lawrence started this petition to Bear Grylls and 1 other

“Visitors to the new Bear Grylls Adventure Park at the NEC Birmingham will be able to go swimming with sharks when it opens at the NEC this autumn.” (Coventry Live 13/7/2018)

In the 21st century there is absolutely no excuse to exploit animals in this way. When the world is waking up to the cruelty and greed of swimming with whales and dolphins in captivity why are we now encouraging the swimming with any captive marine animal?

We should be encouraging our children to explore the world and value its wildlife not see it as a way to make a profit. The experience of seeing wildlife in the wild should be our priority.

This is not Conservation. It sends the completely wrong message to our children and adults alike. We ask you Bear Grylls to stop this!

Petition · Roseanna Cunninham Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for the Environment: SAVE DOLPHINS, PORPOISES AND SEALS FROM SCOTTISH SALMON FARMS · Change.org

Porpoises, dolphins and whales are being driven from feeding grounds and can be deafened by Acoustic Deterrent Devices (ADDs) used by salmon farms. These mammals echolocate to find food, and if deafened will starve.

Most Scottish farms use cheap single nets. Dead fish accumulate and tempt seals to bite salmon through the net. 121 of 172 farms use ADDs (outputting over 179 decibels) to deter seals, but because ADDs are not very effective, farmers using ADDs also shoot seals.

There are alternatives: Marine Harvest use ADDs and shoot seals in Scotland, however in British Columbia, where ADDs and seal shooting are banned, the same company uses double-skinned anti-predator nets (ref.1), which also solve the problem of escapes.

In 2019, Marine Harvest is predicted to have a net profit of over 1 billion euros (ref. 2). They can afford to fit double-skinned anti-predator nets.

Farms which use ADDs are breaking the law prohibiting “deliberate or reckless disturbance or injury to any porpoise, dolphin or whale”. Scottish Natural Heritage have advised (ref.3) that ADDs cause disturbance and can cause hearing damage and stress, but the regulators, Marine Scotland, have not yet enforced the law.

We call on Roseanna Cunningham to:

Enforce existing laws protecting porpoise, dolphins and whales and ban all ADDs by January 2020.
Honour her pledge not to “roll back our hard-won environmental protections after Brexit” by refusing to allow the laws protecting marine mammals to be weakened.
Insist on independent, peer-reviewed scientific investigations, overseen by a stakeholder committee, including tourism and coastal community members if an ADD is claimed not to disturb or injure any porpoise, dolphin or whale.

Refuse to issue a seal shooting license after January 2020 unless a farm has double-skinned anti-predator nets. Farms not using the best technology are not complying with the licensing condition to only shoot seals “as a last resort”.

David & Jean Ainsley run a wildlife tourism boat. We have lodged a Complaint to Europe (ref.4) calling for our laws protecting marine mammals to be enforced. It is supported by 41 groups and charities representing wildlife, tourism, and coastal communities (ref.5).

PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION.

Petition: Tell President Trump: Don’t Harm Marine National Monuments

act.oceana.org
URGENT: President Trump could throw protections for three marine national monuments overboard.

Marine national monuments protect irreplaceable ocean habitats and safeguard key marine species from threats such as mining, offshore drilling and trawling – and right now, they’re under attack. The Trump administration is considering allowing commercial fishing in three monuments.

No president has ever attempted to revoke protections for a marine national monument – We can’t sit back and let President Trump start now.

Tell President Trump not to weaken protections of Marine National Monuments now.

Dear President Trump,

I urge you to preserve marine national monuments and maintain all existing protections granted to these monuments in the United States.

Marine national monuments protect ocean treasures by preserving unique and critical habitats that are home to countless coral, fish and other marine life.

Research has found that marine protected areas allow fish populations to replenish and food webs to rebuild, resulting in an increase in the abundance and diversity of ocean life both inside and outside the protected area. Essentially, the more fish and marine animals populate an area, the more they venture beyond the monument’s borders, providing increased opportunities for fishing and nature-based tourism. Bottom line: protecting our marine national monuments is good for our country.

Marine national monuments also help to reduce other ocean stressors by providing vital services such as increased ocean resilience and ecosystem diversity to reduce the risk of losing key species and habitats.

Please do not attempt to withdraw monument designations or allow commercial fishing to resume in any monuments.

Introduction To Storm Surge

Brunswick Nuclear Power Station’s “Cliff Edge” Barriers Appear To Fall Almost 8 Feet Short Of Required Storm Surge Protection Level

Mining Awareness +

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission NTTF [Near Term Task Force] observed that, “some [nuclear] plants have an overreliance on operator actions and temporary flood mitigation measures such as using sandbags, temporary flood walls and barriers, and portable equipment to perform safety functions.” The NTTF report also states that, “the Task Force has concluded that flooding risks are of concern due to a „cliff-edge‟ effect, in that the safely consequences of a flooding event may increase sharply with a small increase in the flooding level. Therefore, it would be very beneficial to safety for all licensees to confirm that structures, systems, and components (SSCs) important to safely are adequately protected from floods.” [1]

The NRC describes Brunswick Nuclear Power Station’s interim solution to flooding: “the licensee planned to install metal “Cliff Edge Barriers” at targeted areas on site. These barriers are installed 1 to 3 days prior to…

7,000 Insects, Spiders And Lizards Stolen From Philadelphia Museum

7,000 Insects, Spiders And Lizards Stolen From Philadelphia Museum
3-4 minutes

The same week that a fire swept through the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro, destroying millions of priceless artifacts, the news broke that about 4,900 miles away in Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion had also lost about 90 percent of its collection.

But it wasn’t because of a fire, and it wasn’t historical treasures that are gone from this museum. Thieves stole 7,000 live arachnids, insects and lizards. It could be the largest live insect heist in history, according to the museum’s CEO, Dr. John Cambridge. He, as well as police, believe it was an inside job by current or former employees.

Footage from security cameras shows three people leaving the museum on Aug. 22 with containers that were presumably filled with the arthropods, which are estimated to be worth about $40,000. The thieves also stole the logs used to keep track of the insects. Staff uniforms had been “stabbed into the wall with knives,” the Associated Press reports.

Petition: Cat Dissection Has No Place in Our Schools

thepetitionsite.com

by: Care2 Team
recipient: United States Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos

103,855 SUPPORTERS – 110,000 GOAL

This school year, millions of animals will be dissected in high schools across the U.S. — and many of them will be cats.

Yes, that’s right. Precious felines, who many of us love and care for as pets, are one of the most commonly dissected animals in schools.

Please sign this petition demanding an end to cat dissection in U.S. schools now.

Animal dissection is a cruel practice that has no place in our schools. According to PETA investigations into biological supply companies that provide schools with animals for dissection, animals experience all kinds of horrifying abuse before they are killed and sold to schools. Specifically, cats were found to be embalmed before they had actually any chance of life. In other cases, cats were taken from shelters, pet stores, and the streets, ripped away from any chance at a happy life.

The cruel practice isn’t just bad for cats; it’s bad for kids and teaches them to have a callousness towards life. Various leaked videos show kids playing with mutilated animal bodies during dissection lessons, including high schoolers playing jump rope with a cat intestines and dancing with cat bodies. Given the notorious link that exists between animal cruelty and violent behavior, it’s unconscionable that we allow kids to dissect these amazing, intelligent creatures.

Especially considering the fact that the dissection of any animal is archaic and downright unnecessary. From 3-D models to digital simulation programs, there are a host of dissection alternatives available that schools can and should embrace.

Times have changed, and it’s time we make our voices heard. Sign this petition and let’s end the disgusting practice of cat dissection in schools now.more
