Petition: Find the Poachers Who Murdered This Park’s Big Cats

by: Care2 Team
target: Government of South Africa

15,185 SUPPORTERS – 16,000 GOAL
Even in some of the most secure animal refuges, tragedy and cruelty can still strike. South African Justin Fernandes found that out in the most heartbreaking way.

The owner of Jugomaro Predator Park went out to investigate after hearing one of his wolves call out in distress. When he went to the animal enclosures he couldn’t believe what he saw before him. Behind the fences, lying dead or dying, he found three of his lions and a rare golden tabby tiger.

The animals were poisoned to death by poachers who had hoped to cut off their heads and paws and sell them for money in the lucrative endangered animal black market. Fernandes arrived just in time to scare them from his property, but not quick enough to stop them from murdering his animals.

In the video he takes of the aftermath, Fernandes films himself breaking down as he talks about the death of his beloved animals.

At the moment, no one has been arrested for these crimes, but the South African government must work quickly to catch whoever is responsible. Every day they walk free gives them another chance to more innocent animals. Last month, just 20 miles away from the Jugomaro Predator Park, another park owner suffered a similar loss when he discovered that his animals had been killed and butchered.

Sign the petition and ask the South African government to work to urgently find the poachers and protect the remaining park animals.

Petition: Thousands of Adorable Prairie Dogs Will Soon Be Poisoned

by: Care2 Team
target: U.S. Forest Service (USFS)

12,753 SUPPORTERS – 13,000 GOAL
They’re tiny, they’re adorable — and pretty soon, thousands of them will be dead.

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) recently announced a plan to poison 100 colonies of black-tailed prairie dogs in North Dakota, potentially killing thousands of these little critters — unless we act fast.

Though prairie dogs have called the area home for centuries, cattle ranchers have blamed them for eating up the grass their cattle rely on and have successfully fought to remove them. The truth is, however, that even though prairie dogs eat grass, they are natural grazers who actually help maintain healthy grasslands to feed more animals.

We must fight back and save these creatures from mass slaughter. Please sign this petition and demand that the USFS drop its plan to poison prairie dogs!

If the cull goes through, these prairie dogs will suffer a slow and painful death. The government plans to use rodenticide, which can take days to kill the little animals as they slowly bleed out. It is a cruel, inhumane, and unnecessary plan.

Don’t let the government’s cruel plan continue. Sign now to put an end to the mass slaughter of prairie dogs now.

Petition: Sign Ashley Judd’s Petition – Protect the Bonobos

by: Ashley Judd and the Bonobo Conservation Initiative
target: Democratic Republic of the Congo; Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Tourism

150,015 SUPPORTERS – 160,000 GOAL
Bonobos are the world’s least-recognized great ape, and humanity’s closest living relative. This endangered species lives exclusively in Africa’s Congo Basin, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Only an estimated 15,000 bonobos remain in the wild – poaching and habitat loss are pushing them to the brink of extinction.

I fell in love with these amazing animals a few years ago when I narrated “The Bonobo Connection.” I learned that bonobo societies are matriarchal, and unlike our other closest relatives, chimpanzees, are incredibly peaceful. Female-led groups of bonobos are highly empathic, and use affection rather than aggression to resolve conflict and to strengthen social bonds.

It is a tragic irony that this peaceful species is only found in one of the most war-ravaged countries on Earth. Now that the Congo is rebuilding after years of conflict, groundbreaking efforts are underway to protect and study bonobos.

The DRC is currently considering how to manage the habitat of bonobos – some of the most biodiverse rainforest in Africa. The world must encourage the DRC to protect the only home of bonobos by maintaining its current logging moratorium, rejecting oil drilling, expanding their protected habitat and supporting community-led conservation efforts.

I truly believe that through greater understanding and a heightened awareness of bonobos, humanity will benefit. I will be visiting the DRC soon, to view bonobos in the wild and meet with conservation leaders and government representatives. I would be honored to deliver your petition signature and add your voice to the global call to protect our sister species. Please join me.

Petition · gvreddy.ifs.forest@rajasthan.gov.in : Help us save little Suman the elephant, and reunite her family! · Change.org

Wildlife SOS started this petition to Chief Wildlife Warden of Rajasthan Dr. G.V. Reddy

Suman is a six-year-old elephant living in shackles, hidden away from authorities underground, isolated from her mother. Suman has already been through so much; she was born into an abusive circus, then sold to a notoriously cruel owner in the notoriously cruel city of Jaipur. Today she is being forced to live in a dark basement, isolated from her family, hidden away from anyone who could help. If her owner decides to employ her as a riding-elephant, men will beat her and break her spirit to make her “tame enough for work.” And she will work long, hard hours until the day she drops.

Baby elephants like Suman should never have to live like this! We rescued Suman’s sister Peanut from the same circus that abused Suman several years ago, when Peanut was about the same age Suman is now. Today Peanut has a beautiful life, roaming green spaces with other elephants, full of energy and spirit. Suman deserves this life too, as do her mother and father. All together, one family, at our sanctuary. That is our goal.

Suman’s mother, Chanda, has been bred to the point of exhaustion — only to watch her babies repeatedly wrenched away and sold into horrible lives. Chanda is being forced to give tourist rides through the scorching heat in Jaipur, heavy loads weighing down her spine. Suman’s father, Bijli, was also sold into a thankless life of labor in Jaipur.

We cannot allow this. We cannot stand by and watch Suman’s little spirit break through cruelty and neglect. We cannot allow her future to be five decades of abuse and neglect in Jaipur, instead of five decades of love with her family at our rescue center.

Please stand with us for Suman. Help us reunite her with Peanut. Help us bring her family — a family that has already suffered so much — out of darkness and isolation and into a future together.

Please sign this petition asking officials in Jaipur to do the right thing.

Garland Animal Shelter is known to neglect and abuse animals. The following conditions have been documented, reported, and ignored:

  1. Kennel temperatures reaching over 104 degrees
  2. Animals laying in their blood

  3. Emaciated and underfed dogs

  4. Kennels without water

  5. Dogs without cones after a spay or neuter

  7. Animals with stitches still in (up to 60 days) after spay or neuter

We ask that the city council considers the following:

  1. A new shelter
  • A volunteer coordinator

  • Procedures and policies to hold those (mistreating animals) accountable. Things like: cleaning the cages, handling the animals, feeding twice a day, filling water bowls, post operative care, etc.

Petition Deadline is May 17th 2018 at 11:59PM – Don’t Let the Meat Industry Bully Vegan Startups! | Mercy for Animals

The meat industry is facing some tough competition these days. Delicious, healthy, and cruelty-free plant-based meat options have become a staple at most grocery stores and many restaurants, while new companies are breaking ground and creating “clean meat”—real meat without the suffering and death.

The U.S. Cattlemen’s Association, a beef-industry front group, is so afraid of this competition that they petitioned the United States Department of Agriculture to prohibit plant-based and clean meat companies from using the words “beef” or “meat” on product labels.

The USDA is now accepting public comments on this petition. Please use our simple form below to tell the USDA that restricting labels on plant-based foods and clean meat stifles competition, inhibits progress, and is both unnecessary and wrong.

Unique comments are more effective, so please consider personalizing your message before submitting. The deadline to submit comments is May 17, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, so act now to make sure your voice is heard!
