Tips for Using Apple Cider Vinegar to Treat Chronic Yeast Overgrowth (Candida)
Tips for Using Apple Cider Vinegar to Treat Chronic Yeast Overgrowth (Candida)

8-10 minutes

Chronic yeast overgrowth is something that’s often referred to as candida. If you’re not familiar with it, then basically, all you need to know is that we have all types of yeasts and bacteria in our bodies. Some are good and some are bad, and most live within our digestive tracts. The good “bugs” keep us healthy, energized, and protect us from the harmful toxins and everyday contaminants we encounter. They also help keep us regular and keep our skin, weight, and immune system in check.

Bad yeasts and bacteria do the opposite, and sadly, things that we eat in our diets can often fuel these bad “bugs” to become predominant in our systems, outnumbering the good bacteria.
What is Candida?chickpea flour omelet

Everyone has a type of yeast known as candida albicans in the gut. It’s one of the most well-known because it’s easy to get out of hand since it’s fed through sugar, or anything that converts to sugar in the digestive tract (like refined carbs, breads, pastries, cookies, very high starch foods eaten in abundance, candies, sweets, most processed foods, and some moldy foods like cheese, beer and wine). Candida thrives on these foods and can grow at rapid speeds. When this happens, chronic yeast overgrowth occurs and is seen through symptoms such as: constant fatigue and headaches, depression, jock itch, possibly skin yeast infections like ringworm and psoriasis, multiple types of food reactions or allergies, brain fog, and a sensitivity to certain types of moldy, fermented foods (cheese, dairy, wine, beer). Some natural health experts also believe that sugar addictions stem from yeast overgrowth because the yeast needs “food” to survive, leading one to eat more and more.
How Natural Remedies May Helpkale-tomato-salad

Many natural remedies are available and you’ve likely seen all kinds of anti-fungal pills at health food stores that promise to help get rid of candida. While some of these may in fact fight the symptoms of candida and even cure mild cases, it’s best to treat the root of the problem first: removing the harmful foods and replenishing the good gut bacteria. One natural remedy that can help you restore good gut bacteria is an old time classic treatment known as ACV, or apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is fermented with a beneficial yeast that acts as a prebiotic for healthy bacteria in your gut, so essentially it helps your good bacteria grow as you eliminate harmful foods that feed the harmful yeasts like candida. Apple cider vinegar is even applied topically to the skin to treat skin fungal infections, acne, and even used as an alternative treatment to chemical-filled creams for jock-itch.

First, it’s important to remove all the processed, refined, and even naturally sugary foods on your diet. Stick to lots of greens, low-starch root vegetables like turnips, green vegetables and other low-starch vegetables, raw nuts and seeds that are fresh (to prevent mold encounter), as many fresh foods as possible, and low sugar fruits like berries, green apples, cucumber, limes, tomatoes, lemons, and some people handle citrus fine. You can also eat naturally sweet, healthy foods instead, and emphasize healthy fats from coconut, which contains anti-fungal properties naturally.

Some recipes you could enjoy might be: Jazzy-licious Kale, Mesquite Avocado Kale Salad, Escarole and White Bean Soup, Low-Carb Sugar-Free Vegan Protein Bars, Kale and Grilled Tomato Salad or a Chickpea omelet for something hearty. You can also learn to make lower sugar smoothie recipes without so much fruit, with a few of these natural, healthy tips.

After a while, once the yeast is under control, many people can add back low-starch grains like oats and quinoa, and some can even keep them in the beginning. Lentils, chickpeas, avocados, and even winter squash are also usually tolerated just fine on a yeast-free diet. The lower the sugar content of a food, the better. Once you’ve replaced the harmful ‘food’ that candida thrives on, it’s important to add other items to your menu that can possibly help fight bad bacteria.
How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar as Part of a Candida Treatment Regim

Apple cider vinegar is a stellar choice to help your body heal naturally because it’s known for so many healing benefits, including acting as an antifungal and antibacterial food. You’ll need to take it internally as it can help flush out toxins, mucus, and all types of harmful bacteria that can cause a back up during digestion and cause yeast to fester even more. Take a tablespoon diluted in some room temperature or warm water in the morning, in the afternoon and at night after or before your meals. You can add some lemon and stevia if you need it to taste better. You can even add it to herbal teas over ice if you want (it’s actually pretty refreshing!). Try adding ginger to fight bacteria further, and whatever you do- buy the right kind of apple cider vinegar.

You need to purchase raw, organic apple cider vinegar so you know that the ‘mother’ is still in tact, which is the good bacteria the vinegar grows on. (This is the cloudy appearance you see in the bottom of the jar.) A good brand is Bragg’s, though some others are available too. Be sure it’s also non-GMO and organic, whatever you do, to avoid pesticides and harmful chemicals that only feed bad bacteria.
How Apple Cider Vinegar HelpsEasy Green Casserole 1

Since apple cider vinegar is a prebiotic (which feeds the good bacteria), you need to be sure you’re taking in plenty of good bacteria so they can thrive. You can eat fermented foods that are helpful, such as sauerkraut, raw kimchi, and miso. You’ll want to avoid dairy, gluten and most wheat products, and other allergenic foods that can sometimes aggravate yeast overgrowth as well. Also, eat plenty of prebiotic-rich foods that can also help your good gut bacteria and take a plant-based probiotic as well.

You may find in the beginning of healing and battling yeast that you suffer a detox reaction where you feel worse before you feel better, but after several days or weeks, you’ll probably feel much better. You might also see some changes during digestion at this time, but keep in mind that your body is healing and getting rid of bad bacteria. Use warm baths, take magnesium or eat magnesium-rich foods if you find you have a hard time sleeping or with regularity, and be sure to get some fresh sunlight daily if you can. If you’re tired, allow your body to rest, and overall, just focus on eating healthier foods while your body adjusts.

Keep in mind that chronic yeast overgrowth can lead to larger health problems later on, so do your best to take care of your body. Though apple cider vinegar may not cure it completely, it can be used as a helpful tool in fighting candida. Justice for Noura Hussein, The Girl Who Is Sentence To Death For Killing Her Rapist

Justice For Noura Hussein, The Girl Who Is Sentenced To Death For Killing Her Rapist.

by: DerekDeka Richardson
target: Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir

5,918 SUPPORTERS – 6,000 GOAL

Noura Hussein, 19, was told she would be hanged after a Sharia court convicted her of premeditated murder of her husband who she had been forced to marry.

A teenage bride has been sentenced to death for killing her husband who raped her as male relatives pinned her down.

Noura Hussein, 19, says her father made her marry the man – who was also her cousin – when she was 16, but she refused to accept the union and sought refuge with a relative for three years. She returned to her family home on the outskirts of the Sudanese capital Khartoum in April this year after her father said the marriage was cancelled. But she found that she had been duped and preparations for her wedding ceremony were under way.

Hussein said that she refused to have sex with her husband after the ceremony, but on the sixth day, he raped her as three of his male relatives held her down to restrain her. The following day, he attempted to rape her again and as she struggled to stop him, she stabbed him, killing him. A Sharia court, which follows Islamic religious law, found Hussein guilty of premeditated murder last month and on Thursday officially sentenced her to death by hanging. Her lawyers have 15 days to appeal.

“Under Sharia law, the husband’s family can demand either monetary compensation or death. They chose death and now the death penalty has been handed down,” said Badr Eldin Salah, an activist from the Afrika Youth Movement who was in the court.

“Noura’s lawyers say they plan to appeal against the decision, but we also need strong international support from organisations such as the African Union, the United Nations and the European Union to support her.”

Sudan is ranked 165 out of 188 countries on the UN’s Gender Inequality Index, which measures how women fare compared to men when it comes to access to health, education, political participation and employment opportunities. UN Women says violence against women and girls is considered prevalent. The country has not signed the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and has weak policies in place to protect them. Marital rape and child marriage, for example, are not considered crimes in the predominately Muslim African nation. Sudanese law allows for the marriage of a girl once she hits puberty. It also says a 10-year-old girl can be married by their guardian with the permission of a judge. One in three Sudanese women are married before the age of 18, says UN Women.

Campaign groups such as Equality Now say they are writing to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir to plead for clemency, arguing that the judgement is against the Sudanese constitution.

“Noura is a victim, not a criminal, and should be treated as such. In many countries, victims like Noura would be provided services to ensure that they overcome the trauma of their experiences,” said Equality Now’s Global Director Yasmeen Hassan.

“Criminalisation of Noura for defending herself from assault and, in particular a death sentence, would violate her rights under the Sudanese Constitution and international law.”

Please sign now to show your support for Noura. If enough people sign, we can show the Sudanese courts that they must revoke her death sentence and hopefully we can save her life.

Petition: Whole Foods – Tell Tyson to Clean Up Meat

Whole Foods – Tell Tyson to Clean Up Meat

by: Mighty Earth
target: John Mackey, CEO, Whole Foods

95,000 GOAL

Industrial meat producers like Tyson are the main source of water pollution across the country, and Whole Foods is turning a blind eye. Excess manure and fertilizer pollution from the vast quantities of feed grown to raise meat is polluting local waterways in the Heartland, washing downstream along the Mississippi River until it reaches the Gulf of Mexico. This pollution is contaminating drinking water, and causing one of the largest Dead Zones on record in the Gulf.

As one of America’s largest grocery stores with a brand trusted for sustainability, Whole Foods should be holding its suppliers accountable to make meat less polluting. But Whole Foods is currently selling you meat from Tyson Foods, one of the top polluters of our nation’s waters.

Urge Whole Foods to hold Tyson and other suppliers accountable for improving agricultural practices to make meat less polluting.

For more information about Tyson’s water pollution problem, read our report “Mystery Meat II.”
Update #17 hours ago
Tyson is feeling the heat from our campaign and have pledged to improve farming practices on about half their feed acres. Unfortunately, Tyson hasn’t shared any details about how they will get that done. We’ll be delivering our petition to urge Whole Foods to demand better from Tyson this Tuesday. Please share the petition now to help us hit 100K supporters! Thanks!

Petition: It’s ABUSE, not entertainment! Stop the Woodside Pig Scramble

It’s ABUSE, not entertainment! Stop the Woodside Pig Scramble

by: The Committee for Humane Woodside
target: Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County; event sponsors: R.E. Borrmann’s Steel Co., Risk Strategies, Putnam Dealer Group, Dave Tanner, Inc.

41,530 SUPPORTERS – 45,000 GOAL

On July 4th, The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County hosts the Northern California Junior Rodeo in Woodside. In addition to the official line-up of Junior Rodeo events, the Mounted Patrol itself stages an un-sanctioned event called the pig scramble. We are strongly opposed to how this abusive activity treats pigs.

Pigs are prey animals and they suffer from extreme distress as they are chased by dozens of screaming children who mob them, grab and tackle them by the hind legs and torso. The pigs are also treated in inhumane and potentially injurious ways by the adults involved who have been documented tossing pigs onto the ground from the transport trailer, dragging them and carrying them upside down by the legs as they move them about the arena.

Times have changed and this abusive event violates modern farm animal welfare standards and veterinary best practices for the safe, humane handling of farm animals. It also sends a message to children that it is acceptable to harass animals for entertainment. Such abuse is not acceptable and this unsanctioned event has no place in the Town of Woodside – a town that cares deeply about the welfare of its horses and all animals.

If you want to see what takes place during the Woodside Pig Scramble, watch this YouTube video.

We urge the honorable men of the Mounted Patrol to discontinue the non-sanctioned pig scramble. Please contact the following sponsors and ask them to urge the Mounted Patrol to end the scramble: R.E. Borrmann’s Steel Co., Risk Strategies, Putnam Dealer Group, Dave Tanner, Inc.

Petition: Sheriff Deputy Shoots Groundhog in Front of Horrified Bystanders

Sheriff Deputy Shoots Groundhog in Front of Horrified Bystanders

by: Rebecca G.
target: Carroll County Sheriff’s Department

43,161 SUPPORTERS – 45,000 GOAL

When a Maryland resident stuck in traffic saw an adorable groundhog trying to cross a busy road, she decided to take a quick video from her car.

But less than a minute later, she was horrified to see a Carroll County sheriff’s deputy approach the groundhog, draw his service weapon — and shoot the defenseless animal dead.

This was a shocking, cruel, and unnecessary act — and this deputy needs to be held accountable! Please sign to demand that the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department investigate this act of animal cruelty and fire this officer for his gruesome actions.

In most jurisdictions, police officers are only supposed to use their firearms in extreme circumstances — and only as a last resort. It’s clear from this video that the groundhog was NOT a threat to the deputy or to the bystanders watching.

In an interview with HuffPost, a groundhog expert and biology professor said the groundhog seemed harmless and only wanted to cross the road. “He/she probably had a burrow on the other side. It was not attempting to go after the police officer,” the professor said.

Even if the animal was sick, procedures called for the sheriff’s deputy to call animal control instead of firing his service weapon on a busy road.

This was a dangerous and senseless act and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department needs to answer for it. Sign and share the petition to call for the sheriff’s deputy to be held accountable.

Petition: Lyka the Blind Lioness Kept in a Rusty Cage

Lyka the Blind Lioness Kept in a Rusty Cage

by: Care2 Team
target: Arthur Defensor Sr., Governor of Iloilo – Philippines

43,287 SUPPORTERS – 45,000 GOAL
The young lioness, named Lyka, lies listless in a narrow, rusty cage. Born with an eye condition, the 5-year lion has deteriorated to the point where she even can’t see the zoo visitors gawking at her enclosure.

Recent video footage of Lyka — blind, alone, and depressed in her tiny cage — is heartbreaking. Please sign and share to convince Maasin Zoo in the Philippines to send Lyka to a sanctuary and close this zoo of horrors.

The zoo has said that Lyka receives “adequate” food and care but visitors — and photos — tell a different story. One woman told the Mirror that Lyka looked weak and unhealthy, saying “I felt so sorry for her … She looks so neglected and depressed.” She said zoo staff had called Lyka a “breeding mistake.”

Visitors were also quoted as saying that other animals near Lyka were also in very poor health and living in extremely unhealthy conditions. Maasin Zoo is government-funded but staff have said that they don’t have enough money to improve the enclosures or properly care for the animals.

It’s unacceptable that Lyka and other animals at the Maasin Zoo continue to suffer from neglect in captivity while zoo officials and government do nothing.

That’s why Lyka needs your help right now! Please sign the petition to call on the Governor of Iloilo to immediately close the Maasin Zoo and free Lyka to a sanctuary.

Petition: Governor Ige – Act Now to Protect Our Reefs

Governor Ige – Act Now to Protect Our Reefs

by: Nova Covington, Founder, Garden Goddess
target: Hawaii Governor David Ige

25,000 GOAL

In an impressive commitment to protect Hawaii’s cherished coral reefs, the state legislature has passed a bill to ban two chemicals in common sunscreens that are toxic to corals.

The bill is now sitting on the desk of Hawaii’s governor, David Ige. Unfortunately, many companies and business interests have been lobbying the governor to veto the toxic sunscreen ban.

Coral reefs are critical to ocean wildlife, and play a huge role in driving tourism in tropical locations such as Hawaii. But we’re loving our reefs to death. Overfishing, global warming, ocean acidification and invasive species are all playing a roll in degrading these beautiful and diverse living structures.

Hawaii’s legislature is to be congratulated for taking a leading stance on this newly discovered and easily preventable threat – the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate that are found in most sunscreens. Studies have shown these chemicals make coral reefs more susceptible to environmental stressors and can even kill them. It’s urgent that we remove these chemicals from our oceans.

But now, some business interests are rallying to oppose this ban. I know there are sunscreen alternatives that are good for people and the environment – thirteen years ago, I launched my company to make sure of it. We can protect people from sun burns and skin cancer while protecting our oceans and environment.

Please urge Governor Ige to support the leadership of Hawaii’s legislature to protect our coral reefs and sign this bill into law.

Nova Covington founded Goddess Garden in 2005. It is now the largest certified-organic sunscreen brand, also offering certified-organic facial care, aromatherapy and pure essential-oil perfumes. In 2017, Nova established a foundation, Protect Our Mother, to help protect the coral reefs and clean up the oceans.

Petition: Illinois is Threatening to Kill Dogs Over Marijuana Legalization

Illinois is Threatening to Kill Dogs Over Marijuana Legalization

by: Kelsey B.
target: Illinois Law Enforcement

28,198 SUPPORTERS – 30,000 GOAL
Illinois law enforcement is trying to trick us into believing that if marijuana is legalized, they will be forced to euthanize hundreds of drug sniffing dogs. But it’s just a red herring.

Sign the petition to tell Illinois law enforcement to end this false dichotomy and promise not to euthanize any dogs when marijuana is legalized here.

Most drug sniffing dogs are trained to sniff out everything from cocaine to cannabis to heroine, but they are not trained to identify which one they’ve found. That means that if marijuana is legalized in Illinois (go here if you want it to be), the dogs would need to be retrained or retired. The other 9 states in the nation that have legal recreational cannabis use have done just that – retrained or retired their dogs.

But some Illinois law enforcement agencies are threatening to just euthanize the dogs instead. They are trying to scare people who love animals out of voting for legal marijuana. But the choice is not legal marijuana or living dogs. We can have both!

Sign on to tell Illinois law enforcement to stop the scare tactics and promise not to euthanize any dogs based on the legalizaiton of marijuana.
