US-German Exptal Nuclear Reactor Waste Blew Up in Nevada-Germany Trying to Send More Nuclear Waste to USA – Comment to Oppose by 11 March 2016, 1159 pm ET

Oppose America becoming Germany’s Nuclear Waste dump here:!documentDetail;D=DOE_FRDOC_0001-3020 It can be very short and anonymous.

What blew up at the Beatty Nuclear waste site last October? Apparently it included metallic sodium coolant from an old MOX (plutonium) fueled US, German, GE, Euroatom experimental nuclear reactor (SEFOR), located in northwestern Arkansas. Meanwhile, following Germany’s request, the US may import high level nuclear waste from Germany’s failed Pebble Bed nuclear reactors. This isn’t the first radioactive waste that they have burned or dumped in America, either. The Italian mafia dumped German nuclear sludge in Italy, as well. The SEFOR drums at Beatty were 92 oil drums with sodium coolant, which may, or may not, have had contaminants, such as plutonium and americium, which are still radioactive.

  1. ALERT: They have changed the system. If you wish to be anonymous you must fill in all parts of the form as anonymous, with the exception of the State, Country, and Zip code. You must choose a country and a state. You may apparently choose any 5 numbers for zip code. Alternatively you could fill in pseudonyms, look for a real zip code, etc. It’s better not to make up an address unless you know it is non-existent. Best to type anonymous for that.

Please oppose the dumping, eventual “processing” and probable burial, of 200 tonnes of German nuclear waste on America. The US has no place for its on nuclear waste. If the people aren’t protesting they may deserve it. But, the plants and animals and future generations have no voice to protest. You must be their voice.

They claim that the waste is from US HEU. However, as I show in my last (Thursday) post, 99.5% is NOT from the US. And, most likely 100% is not from the US. At the most 0.5% is from the US. Furthermore, diluting and burying high level nuclear waste and/or leaving it outside is never the right way. It must be carefully watched and the drums or casks changed before they leak.

From the Draft Environmental Assessment on the dumping of German nuclear waste on America: “2.2 NO ACTION ALTERNATIVE
Under the No Action Alternative, the spent nuclear fuel containing U.S.-origin uranium from the AVR and THTR would not be transported to the United States for management and disposition. The spent nuclear fuel would remain in storage in Germany and the impacts described in Chapter 4 of this Draft EA would not occur.”

  2. They have unofficially extended the date. To be anonymous someone would have to send a disposable email, or send it by post with no return address. I am waiting one more day to see if they put it on the Federal Register. They should put it on a ballot. People should have the right to “vote” anonymously.
“Comments may be submitted by email to Direct written comments on the Draft Spent Nuclear Fuel from Germany EA to Tracy Williams, NEPA Compliance Officer, U.S. Department of Energy, P.O. Box B, Aiken, South Carolina 29802. DOE has extended the public comment period in response to several requests. The public comment period now ends March 25, 2016. DOE will consider all comments received via email by 11:59PM Eastern Standard Time or postmarked by that date. Comments submitted after that date and time will be considered to the extent practicable.” This post had some good ideas-points. They recommended contacting governmental reps and wondered if the Presidential candidates are aware:

    • Thank you so much! I really am surprised that the USA wants to be responsible for taking care of this FOREVER when we already have plenty here to be responsible for, Germany needs to keep and be responsible for their own nuclear waste!!!
