Your Cold, Cold Heart

The Patron Saint of Dogs

No one deserves to freeze to death

An untold number of dogs and cats have frozen to death during this brutal winter. Not just strays or ferals, but pets, those four-legged friends many of us consider family. When we hear these stories in the news we shake our heads and ask: what kind of person does that?

There is a concerted effort on the part of animal welfare advocates to raise awareness about the plight of dogs tied to chains for life. They’re the new slave of the modern world — poor, helpless, voiceless creatures at their master’s mercy. Chained behind the house in sub-zero weather with inadequate shelter, frozen water bowls, no companionship or hope, they look so lonely they break our hearts.

How would you like to sleep like this?

These dogs are also at the mercy of lax animal welfare laws, ones that state that if a dog is fed and watered daily and has some kind of shelter, no matter how…

My Complaint to the Virginia Department of Agriculture Against PETA

mom2nomads

On Tuesday I got some pretty disappointing news (to put it mildly), in response to my request to file a complaint against People for the Ethical Treatment of animals with the Virginia Department of Agriculture. This was what I emailed to them on February 13:

Good Afternoon,

I would like to file a complaint against People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in regards to what, I believe, happens within their Community Animal Project.

Fifteen years ago I worked for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in the Community Animal Project division as a Field Officer. I would like very much to have a chance to give you my first hand account of the practices within PeTA towards the animals that they take in to their “shelter” (I use quotes because, during my time there, there was no actual shelter beyond an empty closet and the warehouse where animals…

Call To Action For Cats

SiameseCatTwins4Ever

We need your help! Please write a letter to the Dept. of the Interior telling them to support the control of the feral cat population by using HUMANE, NON-LETHAL METHODS, including Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR).

Remind them that the “catch and kill” method is outdated, cruel and simply DOES NOT WORK!

Please send your comments to:

Department of the Interior Attention: Secretary Sally Jewell
1849 C Street, NW, Washington, DC 20240

Phone: 202-208-3100

Email: FeedBack@ios.doi.gov

Please send your letter, or email, or make your phone call, and then tell others to please do the same.

Thank You!

Indian State Passes Beef Ban; Violators Subject to Fines, Jail Time – MFABlog.org

Life or Lunch?

India_beef2The Indian state of Maharashtra is making headlines for banning the sale of beef within its borders, including in the biggest city in India: Mumbai.

According to BBC News:

The Indian president has approved a bill which bans the slaughter of cows and the sale and consumption of beef in the western state of Maharashtra. Anyone found breaking the law will face a fine and up to five years in prison. …

… The BBC’s Shilpa Kannan in Delhi says the Maharashtra beef ban is the toughest so far in India – along with cows, it also forbids the killing of bulls and bullocks and even possessing beef, which will now be considered as contraband.

None of this should come as a shock. Hindus, who make up over 80 percent of the Indian population, consider cows sacred, and just last year, the Indian city of Palitana become the first…
