“How do you mistake a horse for a coyote?”

Hunter_involved_in_horse_shooting_works_for_Ontario_County_Sheriff39s_Office-syndImport-053802For weeks, many of you have been asking us to look into the case of two horses shot by hunters in Livingston County.

It happened last month and since then we’ve put in several calls to police and the state Department of Environmental Conservation trying to track down answers. Finally, Wednesday we received a release about the incident and Thursday we learned one of the men involved works for the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department.

Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero says it was not his investigation, so he was not at liberty to release information. Why the DEC waited more than three weeks to tell us what happened isn’t clear and the horse owners tell News10NBC even they were left in the dark.

Owner Tom Maggio says, “We’ve had horses all…

Fracking Industry Distorts Science To Deceive Public And Policymakers, Says Watchdog Group

Emilio Cogliani

The oil and gas industry sponsors and spins research to shape the scientific debate over horizontal hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. That’s the conclusion of a watchdog group’s analysis of more than 130 documents distributed to policymakers by industry representatives.

“Research and statistics can be manipulated to say whatever the person using them wants to say,” said Robert Galbraith, an analyst with the nonprofit Public Accountability Initiative and co-author of the report released on Wednesday. Public Accountability Initiative, which describes itself as a non-partisan advocate of corporate and government transparency, receives some financial support from groups opposed to fracking.

Energy in Depth, the oil and gas industry’s education and public outreach arm, presents its list of documents as evidence of the safety of a process that has been “closely regulated and extensively studied.” The industry used the documents to persuade the Allegheny County Council in Pittsburgh in May to lease mineral…

NASA satellite image shows the frozen wasteland that currently is the United States

Nwo Report

If you’re reading this from anywhere in the United States right now, there’s a pretty good chance it’s cold outside. We’re in the middle of a massive freeze that could last until March, the breadth of which NASA’s Terra satellite just captured in the remarkable view you see above. See all that territory blanketed in white? That’s snow. It’s not cloud patterns, or a representation of wind currents, just a bunch of frozen water atop even colder ground. NASA supplemented the photo with some harrowing, record-breaking numbers:

  • 1ºF in Baltimore, MD
  • -6ºF in Louisville, KY
  • 7ºF in Charlotte, NC
  • 4ºF in Asheville, NC
  • 18ºF in Macon, GA
  • 14ºF in Athens, GA

So if you live anywhere north of, say, Houston, be sure to bundle up before you head outside this weekend. (Actually, why are you going outside anyways? Are you going to see Hot Tub Time Machine 2?Before…

We make no illusions to the fact that the gray wolf is under a never ending attack from anti-wolf lobbying groups and members of Congress that are “owned” by these groups. A bill introduced last week by Tea Party extremists and anti-wolf fake “Democrats” seeks to completely remove all Endangered Species Act protections from Great Lakes wolves AND prevent them from EVER having any ESA protections in the future. While the (G)Reed Ribble bill is getting all of the attention, the other anti-wolf bill written by Tea Party extremist John Kline (R- MN Big Ag), H.R. 843, seeks to not only strip ESA protections from gray wolves in the Great Lakes it also would prevent ANY listing or protections for wolves in these states EVER…

GarryRogers Nature Conservation

GMTrees“The International Campaign to STOP GE Trees, Dogwood Alliance & Biofuelwatch Groups Condemn US for Bowing to Industry, Ignoring Widespread Public Opposition New York (29 Jan. 2015) – Groups from around the world [1] today joined together to denounce the US government for allowing the first genetically engineered tree, a loblolly pine, to be legalized with no government or public oversight, with no assessment of their risks to the public or the environment, and without regard to overwhelming public opposition to GE trees.

Loblolly Pine Distribution Loblolly Pine Distribution

“A secret letter from the USDA to GE tree company ArborGen [2], dated last August, was recently exposed by scientist Doug Gurian-Sherman of the Center for Food Safety [3]. In this letter, the USDA made the unprecedented decision to allow ArborGen to pursue unregulated commercial cultivation of a loblolly pine genetically engineered for altered wood composition. The Environmental Protection Agency is considering expanding the use of a highly toxic bee-killing pesticide.

Tell the EPA to protect bees and suspend the use of sulfoxaflor now!

Bee populations are plummeting! Yet the Environmental Protection Agency recently sided with Dow AgroSciences to approve a new, highly toxic bee-killing pesticide called sulfoxaflor.

And now the EPA is considering expanding the number of crops this pesticide can be sprayed on to include corn, alfalfa, oats, and several other significant and widely grown crops.

Will you help us fight back?

Tell the EPA to deny Dow AgroScience’s application to expand the registration of the bee-killing pesticide sulfoxaflor now.

Nearly one-third of our crops—including many vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds—depend on bees for pollination. But bees in our country are dying at unprecedented rates, and scientists are pointing to…

Denmark: Does The Right Thing and Bans Religious No Stun Slaughter. Danish Minister says ‘animal rights come before religion’.

Serbian Animals Voice (SAV)

Denmark bans kosher and halal slaughter as minister says ‘animal rights come before religion’

SAV Comment – well done Denmark; a government with guts; instead of being afraid to do things because of the old ‘religious rights’ talk.  If only the UK government were so brave – but then we do have Cameron leading the ‘be quieters’ !!

The UK is a Christian country.  The UK stuns animals before slaughter.  It should be undertaken for ALL animals slaughtered in the UK with no religious exemptions.  Stunning is the UK way; so if living in the UK, abide UK law and stun all animals before slaughter !!

Serious Ocean Issue!!!!!!

plastic island

When you throw a plastic bottle or bag in the ocean, do you know what happens to it? Many bags and bottles break apart into tiny pieces of trash which can accidentally be swallowed by filter feeders or mistaken as tiny edible animals by fish. In worse cases, plastic bags are eaten by endangered animals (such as some species of sea turtle) or may become caught or tangled on creatures or even plants. However, many plastic bags, bottles, and other forms of trash are carried on ocean currents until they join patches of garbage afloat in the ocean. These “Plastic Islands” are found scattered all over the world, but the largest Plastic Island is located offshore in the Pacific Ocean. How big is Plastic Island? Unbelievably, Plastic Island is BIGGER THAN THE STATE OF TEXAS!!!!
It is very sad that people could throw away that much trash in the ocean…
