Biotech Company Prepares to Release GM Mosquitoes in Florida Neighborhood

Christian Patriots

(NaturalNews) There’s a type of mosquito, Aedes aegypti, known not only to spread certain diseases but to be resistant to most of the insecticides designed to keep their bites at bay. To remedy the situation, British biotech firm Oxitec has patented a method of mutating Aedes aegypti with coral, cabbage, and elements of the E. coli bacteria and herpes simplex virus genes.(1)

Translation: They’ve created a genetically-modified mosquito.

Even worse than their creation is the fact that, if the company has their way, the mosquitoes will be released in the Spring of 2015. Not in a lab environment or a controlled indoor area, but in public where people walk, work, play and shop. If the FDA approves, the GM mosquitoes will be released in areas thought to more susceptible to disease than most other areas; in particular, Oxitec has their eyes on the Florida Keys.

The two reasons…

Staff Report

FRISCO — One of the world’s most endangered marine mammals will get a little more room to roam, as the National Marine Fisheries Service proposed an expansion of critical habitat for endangered North Atlantic right whales.

The expansion covers areas in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean that support calving and nursing. The habitat rule comes in response to continued pressure from conservation advocates pushing for adequate protection for a species that numbers only about 450 individuals.

Smartphone Apps Enable Consumers To Shop Cruelty-Free (And Bite-Back At Companies That Test On Animals)

Despite available alternatives, millions of animals are subjected to cruel and unnecessary experiments for cosmetics. In Canada, although the law requires that animals be used for medical testing, animals are not required for cosmetics testing. The Food and Drugs Act, the Cosmetic Regulations Act, and the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and Regulations are all federal laws that relate to cosmetics testing. However, none of the Acts stipulate that animal testing is a requirement.

The information that has historically been gained from animal tests is increasingly being replaced with quicker, cheaper and more reliable non-animal methods. Many of the animal tests used to test cosmetics ingredients have now been replaced or are in development. The TTC approach (Threshold of Toxicological Concern) can be safely used to show that testing is not necessary for many ingredients, due to the low exposure of consumers to individual cosmetic ingredients.

Global Warming

Earth Report

Ocean Acidification

Ocean acidification can now be seen from space, highlighting an ongoing danger of climate change and revealing the regions most at risk.

Seawater absorbs about a quarter of the carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, that humans release into the atmosphere each year, mostly from the burning of fossil fuels, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This process has slowed the warming of the globe, as all of that carbon is locked up in the ocean’s “carbon sink” rather than floating freely in the atmosphere. But when seawater takes up carbon dioxide, it becomes more acidic. According to NOAA, the surface pH of the ocean has become 30 percent more acidic since the end of the Industrial Revolution.

A map created from the results of satellite gathered information shows the variation apparent across the globe. The redder the colour, the more alkaline, or basic — the…

Man Jailed for Feeding Cats

Nwo Report

Cops: Starve cats or go to jail

Man Jailed for Feeding CatsSource: Adan Salazar |

An elderly man in North Texas chose incarceration over paying a fine after committing an act of compassion he doesn’t consider to be a crime.

Gainesville resident David Parton, 76, languished in the Cooke County jail for nine days after feeding nine stray cats in violation of a city ordinance prohibiting the act.

“God told me to keep feeding them and leave the consequences to Him,” Parton told Dallas’ CBS affiliate.

Under the Gainesville City Code of Ordinance, the feeding of stray animals is considered a “public nuisance” and “unlawful.” Gainesville Mayor Jim Goldsworthy also says it contributes to the feral cat overpopulation problem.

Asking the city to reconsider the mandate, Parton expressed that the law “criminalizes compassion” at a city council meeting last November.

“Mr. Parton stated that ten years ago he found two kittens starving to…
