Rescue Animals Get The Help They Need Thanks To Online Donations

Emilio Cogliani

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A large number of small online donations can turn pet projects into big lifesavers for animals.

LoveAnimals.org, a year-old crowdfunding site, is believed to be the first devoted to aiding just pets and wildlife. It has tapped into the power of online contributions, where people can give what they can, whether $5 or $500, to help a more costly project come to fruition. Through Love Animals, donors can help nonprofit sanctuaries, pet rescues, animal hospitals, zoos and aquariums provide care and extra amenities for dogs, elephants, otters, horses and everything in between.

Animal efforts appear on other sites using the popular crowdfunding technique, such as Indiegogo, Kickstarter and Gofundme, but they are mixed with non-animal causes and for-profit companies. In July, the ResQwalk mobile app launched through Indiegogo, allowing people to raise money for animal rescues and shelters in the U.S. and Canada every time they…

Wording:

To the president of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto. Mr. President, you can stop this. For the sake of Mexico you need to stop the “Torneo de Lazo” in Yucatan. To witness this level of violence promotes more violence. Your country is already punished by an ever increasing wave of violence. The people of Mexico are suffering this violence every day. Tourism in Mexico is suffering the effects of this violence by the decreasing numbers of tourist visiting Mexico because of it. Torneo de Lazo only adds to a tarnished image that you as president must improve. Besides repairing Mexico’s image this is the…

Animals and Oil Do Not Mix Well

Alexandra´s Animal Awareness Blog

Photo: NWF Photo: NWF

Four years after the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico many animals still are in dire straights. Not only have many animals died due to the disaster, but the offspring of many species still is threatened by the aftermath of this ecological nightmare.

“This summer, endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle hatchlings faced many obstacles as they scrambled from their nest towards the Gulf waters.

But their biggest hurdle in the waters ahead may be the lingering effects of the 2010 Gulf oil spill.

Finally, we’re nearing a point where the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council can seriously start reviewing long-term restoration projects in the Gulf.

Urge the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council to restore habitat for Gulf wildlife like the Kemp’s ridley sea turtles!

Activist Arrested for Liberating Chickens; Hundreds of Others Found Dead

Our Compass

Source Their Turn
ByDonny Moss

Kaporos, the annual chicken-swinging ritual that takes place before Yom Kippur, doesn’t start until Tuesday night, but, already, an activist has been arrested, and hundreds of chickens stacked in crates on the street have died.

Wearing a Mercy For Animals t-shirt, an activist from New Jersey was arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing chickens from a “Kaporos Center” in Brooklyn. Authorities found the liberated chickens in his vehicle. Sadly, these animals, who had a brief taste of freedom in the back of a van, will most likely be used in the Kaporos ritual and then slaughtered.

In a separate incident, Brooklyn resident Rina Deych, a founding member of the advocacy group working to end the chicken-swinging ritual, made the grisly discovery of hundreds of dead chickens stacked in crates, and she took footage with the hope that authorities would charge the perpetrators with animal cruelty.

Ms. Deych suspects that the…

Indian City Becomes First Vegetarian City in the World – MFABlog.org

Life or Lunch?

8004347224_7e29f9b5a7_zWorldcrunch reports a historic change in Palitana, an Indian city, which has become the first all-vegetarian city in the world.

Behind this revolutionary change are the Jain monks who went on a hunger strike to pressure the state of Gujarat to outlaw animal slaughter in their city. The hunger strike was successful and the Gujarat government imposed a ban on animal slaughter and outlawed the sale of meat and eggs.

About 5 million people in India practice Jainism and agree with the ban.

Virat Sagar Maharaj, a Jain monk, says, “Everyone in this world – whether animal or human being or a very small creature – has all been given the right to live by God.”

As inpiduals, the best thing you can do to protect animals is to adopt a kind vegan lifestyle. For more information and tips for transitioning to a vegan diet, check out ChooseVeg.com.
