Horse Killer Finds God, Makes Apology

Don CorleoneWritten by:  Heather Clemenceau

Canadian horse advocates will almost certainly recall the bizarre case of horse-decapitator Darrell Mowat. In 2012, in a scene straight out of “The Godfather,” the Niagara Falls, Canada man went full-out Don Corleone when he killed and decapitated a draft horse and left its head in the pickup bed of an acquaintance. The remains of the two-year old Percheron, known as “Joe” were later found by Niagara Regional police on a hobby farm in rural Niagara Falls, where Mowat volunteered as a farm hand.

Mowat, now 30, was charged with killing cattle contrary to section 444 of the Criminal Code of Canada, willfully causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal, and mischief under $5,000. Under the Criminal Code, “killing cattle” also refers to killing horses. His arrest and later publicity were followed by petitions to ensure that he served actual jail time, which he ultimately…

Icelandic volcano could trigger Britain’s coldest winter EVER this year

Nwo Report

Britain could face a freezing winter if the Icelandic volcano erupts

BRITAIN could freeze in YEARS of super-cold winters and miserable summers if the Bardarbunga volcano erupts, experts have warned.

Depending on the force of the explosion, minute particles thrust beyond the earth’s atmosphere can trigger DECADES of chaotic weather patterns.

Tiny pieces of debris act as billions of shields reflecting the sun’s light away from earth meaning winter temperatures could plunge LOWER THAN EVER before while summer will be devoid of sunshine.

The first effect could be a bitterly cold winter to arrive in weeks with thermometers plunging into minus figures and not rising long before next summer.

The Icelandic Met Office has this week warned  of “strong indications of ongoing magma movement” around the volcano prompting them to raise the aviation warning to orange, the second highest and sparking fears the crater could blow at any moment.

The region has also this week been hit by a magnitude-four earthquake…

The Cougar Fund

Great Cats of the "World"

Over 5,000 human-caused cougar mortalities occurred in 2012, with more than 3,000 cats killed simply for “sport.” Help us spread the message that cougars are beautiful, ecologically-significant animals that should be viewed through binoculars, not crosshairs. #WhyCougars

Following a successful operation in Cuzco, Peru, today Smith the lion (whose life had been threatened after the attack on a woman at the circus), Kiara’s two cubs and Pepe the monkey were all taken from Circo Monaco. The huge operation involved the police, ADI, SERFOR and ATFFS. The animals are now on their way to our Spirit of Freedom temporary rescue centre. ADI commends the determination of the Peru authorities in the face of considerable aggression.

ADI is making a massive commitment to this operation, providing all funding, trucks, cages, crates, veterinary, food and care to rescue animals. Today was a good day for animals but we urgently need more funds for Operation Spirit of Freedom. Help us get them to safety.

More Than 90,000 Acres of Critical Tiger Habitat Will Be Logged

With fewer than 1,500 Bengal Tigers left in the wild, these magnificent cats are on the brink of extinction, and now the FDCM are threatening their survival by pushing plans to log some of the only precious natural habitat they have left.

The area due to be cut is so vital to the tigers that it was once earmarked to become a protected wildlife refuge. Care2 reader Mary Elizabeth heard about this alarming news and started a petition to fight back against this appalling decision and to help save the forest from being logged for profit.

Bengal Tiger Numbers Are Plummeting

Less than one hundred years ago, tigers prowled freely and abundantly all across the Indian subcontinent, but exploding human…

1 in 7 People Suffer From Being ‘Sleep Drunk’

TIME

It’s a scene familiar to about 15% of us. Your alarm goes off in the morning, but instead of waking up alert (if not especially chipper), you’re entirely confused by what’s going on. You may be disoriented, not know where you are, and you may even try to answer your alarm as though it were a phone call.

If that’s happened to you, it’s because you’re sleep drunk.

According to a new report published in the journal Neurology, sleep drunkenness—which is having trouble coming to full wakefulness after sleep, accompanied by intense confusion and disorientation, and even sometimes violent reactions and amnesia—is a serious and surprisingly common problem.

Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine interviewed 19,136 people ages 18 and older about their sleep behaviors, mental health, and medication use and found that about 15% of the participants had experienced a sleep drunkenness episode in the last year…

Norway kills 729 whales in record year for hunt but demand failing for meat

August 25th, 2014. More than 720 whales have been harpooned in Norway in the most deadly hunting season since the Government began defying an international ban in 1993.

The number is under the country’s self-imposed quota of 1,286 and the Government claims the four-month hunt is for the “protection and sustainable harvesting of marine resources”.

GRAPHIC VIDEO; WILD ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES IN THE UK…Why no ban yet?? Please help!

STOP ANIMAL ABUSE

“Please, if you care about wild animals being exploited for entertainment & money, take action & send an email to the links below; I don’t know about you, but I am sick of being hoodwinked! The BRITISH Government are stalling for some reason, whilst other Countries (even those known for their poor welfare of animals) have managed a ban….why not England?? All those in government need to watch the video at the end of this post, even though posted in 2010, little has changed, for animals are still being beaten into submission by cruel trainers, taking their own frustrations out, on sentient beings, who can’t speak about the abuse. Circuses are interested only in the money their animal performances bring in, which brings horrific suffering to those entrusted to entertain…THE ENGLISH GOVERNMENT HAVE TO HONOUR THEIR PROMISE OF A BAN ON WILD ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES ASAP…I only feel total empathy & sorrow for those sentient…

Animal Cruelty Near My Own Hometown…..

Dogpaddling Through Life

Moulton is a small town of 3,000 people located in northern Alabama. It’s less than an hour from the town where I grew up. The people are friendly, church-going conservatives.

And it’s the home to horrific animal cruelty.

.

Meet Carolyn Atchison. For a decade, she contracted with Lawrence County, Alabama, to operate the holding facility for the county’s animal control services. In return she received $70,000, use of and gasoline for a county truck, and a cell phone. She lost her contract in 2013.

She’s also the owner of Animal House Zoo, a backyard zoo housing all sorts of exotic animals. She used to have a USDA license to own exotic animals, and in 2004 owned 29 tigers. Her license wasn’t renewed in 2006 because of violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

What do these two things have in common? Simply put, she used to feed the dogs…

From BBQ jackfruit sandwiches and vegetable curry to mushroom-filled Chinese buns and even dedicated vegan hot dog stands, the new sports stadium has been dubbed “the most vegan-friendly in the nation” by several media sources. According to catering CEO Des Hague, the intent was to “design a hospitality program to usher in a new fan experience, and to match the Bay Area’s diverse culture.” There are 32 vegan options at the sports field.
