Close Relationship Between Seafood and Seal Murder

Alexandra´s Animal Awareness Blog

Why is eating fish related to the yearly murder of thousands of young seals? Fishermen do not make enough money with fishing so they get offered another “job” that pays their rent, and that is killing thousands of young seals by smashing in their heads to save their precious fur for sale.

“When you purchase Canadian Seafood, you support a brutal commercial industry kept in business by the slaughter of seals. Sealers are fishermen first, and in fact only 5% of their income comes from sealing! The rest comes from exporting seafood to countries like the United States. Despite the small profit margin, the Canadian fishing industry refuses to end this bloody practice. Even Canada’s Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans won’t move to shut down seal hunting until the fishing industry asks it to.”

Scientists detect genetic abnormalities in Fukushima birds, insects

World of Birds

In a set of papers published Thursday in the Journal of Heredity, a U.S. publication, Japanese and U.S. scientists warned that radioactive materials released from by the core meltdowns at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant could have caused abnormalities in the genes of nearby birds and insects.

One of the experts, Timothy Mousseau of the University of South Carolina, called for wide-ranging and long-term research on ecosystems, such as a genetic-level analysis, drawing a comparison with what happened to such species after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster in present-day Ukraine.

Abused Elephants Forced to Perform in Canada Need Your Help!

GarryRogers Nature Conservation

Latest Post ButtonFrom Peta.org:  “Please ask Karnak Shriners to require that Tarzan Zerbini Circus stage its performances without elephants!

“Karnak Shriners have chosen exhibitor Tarzan Zerbini to provide and exhibit elephants for their circus, which plans to travel throughout Quebec beginning August 14. Please join PETA in urging the Karnak Shriners to require that Zerbini stage its performances without elephants.

“Tarzan Zerbini Circus has a lengthy history of animal welfare violations. It has been cited more than two dozen times for Animal Welfare Act violations, including for keeping an elephant constantly chained, keeping elephants in an area that contained a solid waste pile that was approximately 8 feet wide and 4 feet tall, allowing waste to flow into a pond that the elephants had direct access to, and feeding elephants an unhealthy diet of nothing but bread, hay, and weeds.”

How to Avoid new “Beep-Beep-Boop” nonsense design change at WordPress!

Lantern Timeglass Journal

TIMEGLASS JOURNAL

Friday 15 August 2014

Special Report

Regarding the newest design change at WordPress – the “BEEP-BEEP-BOOP” nonsense.

I found a work-around!!!

For a New Post:
1. Main “Dashboard” – from WordPress Site TITLE drop-down (open the main Dashboard) >
2. “Posts” >
3. “Add New” (right under “All Posts”) = old version!!!
[NOT “New” > “Post” from title drop-down. And all other options get the B-B-B nonsense.]

To do an Edit:
1. Main “Dashboard” – from title drop-down (open the main Dashboard) >
2. “Posts” >
3. “All Posts” >
4. Find the post you want to edit >
5. Select “Edit” under post title. That will avoid the B-B-B nonsense.

Hopefully this small victory is not an oversight yet to be changed to more B-B-B nonsense.

The previous recent change “improvement” a month ago eliminated the vertical scrollbar of the normal text box, and I still don’t…

Center for Food Safety backs up concerns about 2,4-D, an “approved” herbicide BLM uses on public lands

Straight from the Horse's Heart

I made a public comment and posted an open letter to the BLM pointing out some possible risks of the use of the herbicide 2,4-D in the BLM’s Environmental Assessment for the “Desatoya Mountains Habitat Resiliency, Health, and Restoration Project” in Nevada (2012).  Recently, the Center for Food Safety has also voiced concerns about the possible risks of 2,4-D.

The Center for Food Safety recently wrote this:

Over a hundred million additional pounds of toxic pesticides associated with cancers and birth defects are coming to a field near you. UNLESS YOU STOP IT!

“Agent Orange” crops are genetically engineered by Dow Chemical to promote the use of 2,4-D, one of the herbicides in the toxic mixture Vietnam veteran’s know as Agent Orange…

Why you should avoid Palm Oil

Vegan Future

Palm oil has only recently become widely used in products. Replacing other vegetable oils due to its cheapness, it is used in everything from biscuits to soap.

It mainly originates from rainforest land which is bought cheaply by companies and then ‘slashed and burnt’ and used for growing palms.

Rainforests are not only beautiful habitat that are home to indigenous people who have lived there for centuries, but also rare and unique animals who can only survive in that environment.

Rare species of plants (of which some have been found to be of use as new medicines for serious diseases) also grow there. Orangutans are but one species in imminent danger of extinction as they lose their homes whilst trees are destroyed. The burning of rainforest also contributes to massive increases in CO2 which is a factor in global warming. Rainforests are known as “the lungs of the Earth” due…
