International Tiger Day, or Global Tiger Day – created at the St. Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010 – is celebrated on July 29th. Its’ goal is to raise world awareness for wild tigers and support for their conservation. Tigers are magnificent majestic big cats who deserve our utmost respect, protection and advocacy. We would like to do our part to help promote this day by posting actions and sites to visit to learn more about wild tigers,  ways we can help tigers in captivity…and to of course show our love and support for Tony ~ who has himself raised awareness to the plight of captive tigers in the U.S.

Sadly there are only an estimated 3,200 of Tony’s “cousins” remaining in the wild,  a decline of 97% since the turn of the century.

Sea ice experts make astonishing admissions to polar bear specialists

Climate scientists specializing in future sea ice predictions made some remarkable statements to polar bear scientists at their last meeting – admissions that may really surprise you.

USFWS_PolarBearNews2013_pg5 labeled

Back on June 26 (reported here), the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (PBSG) posted a summary of its last meeting. So, I was very surprised to find (while there looking for something else), that on 18 July 2014 they had added minutes from the meeting to that summary.

These minutes are a bonanza because among the juicy nuggets of information is a summary of what the three invited climate scientists from Colorado (Jennifer Kay, Mark Serreze, and Marika Holland) had to say and what questions were asked. While real transparency would have involved posting copies of the sea ice presentations and transcripts of the question and answer sessions, this is certainly better than nothing.

I’ve pulled some quotes from the minutes…

These Animal Rescues Will Restore Your Faith in Humanity VIDEO | One Green Planet

Life or Lunch?

dog is drowning. A severely injured kitten. A whale tangled in a net. What would you do if you saw an animal in distress? Chances are, if you have even an ounce of compassion for living creatures, you will do something to help. Some people will call for help, some will do nothing, but others don’t think twice about rushing in to help. Firefighters are prime examples of the type of people who go toward danger instead of away and they will do everything in their power to rescue people and animals from all sorts of life threatening situations, even knowing their lives could be at risk.

In this video, you will watch a compilation of animal rescues (and one man needing help) collected from all over the world. Your faith in humanity will be restored as you witness heartwarming endings to animal rescues

Crazy! A Man Asks a Homeless Man to Borrow his Bucket, What Happens Next Will Burst you Into Tears

Reality Of Christ

I usually don’t share stories like this one, but this time I just couldn’t help myself! This story not only brought me to tears but encouraged me to take note of others around me.

The video below is of a German student who took note of a homeless man attempting to get money from those passing by.  He noticed that the man’s techniques were not very successful so he asks the homeless man to borrow his bucket. What happens next will literally drive you to tears…

BLM NV Creates Access to Wild Horses and Will Open Facility To Public

(RENO,NV) On Friday July 25th Amy Lueders, Nevada State Lead for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), issued a directive on access to wild horse and burro helicopter roundups. Simultaneously the National BLM office has agreed to open up the “Broken Arrow” facility on Indian Lakes Road to public tours once more, including tours if the facility is used as intake from roundups. As a condition of this directive Laura Leigh, President and founder of Wild Horse Education, agreed to voluntarily drop an ongoing federal court action to obtain meaningful access to wild horses and burros during capture and in holding.

It Is What It Is

~~July 26, 2014~~

Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably heard the term GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms), and have likely eaten foods that were genetically engineered in some form or fashion.

But, do you know what this actually means and what it’s doing to your body?

What is a GMO?

A genetically engineered food is a plant or meat product that has had its DNA artificially altered in a laboratory by genes from other plants, animals, viruses, or bacteria, in order to produce foreign compounds in that food. This type of genetic alteration is not found in nature, and is experimental. The correct scientific term is “transgenics,” and is also often referred to as (GE) genetically engineered.

64 countries, including the entire European Union and China, have jumped the non-GMO train, banning the use, or requiring the labeling, of all GMO products. Of all of the developed countries in…

World Elephant Day, 12 August

Dear Kitty. Some blog

This video is called Natural World 2009 Elephants without Borders.

From the Conservation Action Trust in South Africa:

World Elephant Day 2014

The 12th of August, World Elephant Day, is about celebrating the iconic majesty of elephants, recognizing the mystique of these enigmatic grey giants and accepting them as fellow sentient beings who bring joy and richness to the lives of all who are privileged to see them.

They are revered in many cultures and it may indeed have been this respect that made ivory seem so precious and desirable. The insatiable demand for ivory is now threatening the survival of Elephants in many countries, so on World Elephant Day we should pause to consider the many threats they face from poaching, the ivory trade, habitat destruction and space limitation.

So often the question is raised” What can I do about it?” so here are some suggestions for World…
