Lemon Water Before Bedtime

My tall glass of fresh lemon water before I hit the sack will assist my body in detoxification. Lemon water is also a good source of vitamin C and antioxidants. It also contains vitamins (such as vitamin B, riboflavin), minerals (such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus), proteins and carbohydrates.

Lemons are highly acidic but they contain the good acids that your body needs. Your body has a fine PH balance that must be maintained and lemon water helps it.

If your body is not alkaline, as it should be, then you could have a series of health problems from heartburn and acid reflux that many suffer with on a daily basis; digestive issues, and irregularity.

An acidic body can wreak havoc on your allergies, especially if you are an asthmatic, or suffer from frequent headaches. It also prevents constipation.

Sumatrans Suffer a Terrible Loss

Fight for Rhinos

There are no more than 100 Sumatran Rhinos left in the wild . To say they are critically endangered is an understatement.

The Cincinnati Zoo has been the world leader in successful captive breeding of the species. In fact, Emi, the Sumatran was phenomenally successful, having given birth to three rhinos in her lifetime! Quite the accomplishment for her species. (see previous post: Emi-the world-famous sumatran)

Suci with Emi Emi and daughter Suci

In 2003, she gave birth to her daughter, Suci. After her brother, Andalas, was moved to the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary (SRS) in south Sumatra to breed, Suci and her brother Harapan were the only two of their species in all of North America.

In a desperate attempt to save the species from extinction, Cincinnati planned to breedSuci

American Factory Farming: Feeding China’s Demand for Pork – MFA Blog

Life or Lunch?

West Coast Farms Castration 06-thumb-210x196 A recent Mother Jones article highlights the growing demand for pork in China and the role of the United States in meeting that demand.

With a rapidly growing population and increased per capita demand for pork, China is now responsible for the confinement of more than half of the world’s pigs raised for food.

There are several reasons the U.S. is poised to become China’s very own pork factory farm, including the fact that pork consumption in the U.S. has been on the decline since the 90s. This downtrend is largely due to concern for animal welfare. According to the article, based on current projections, “the USDA expects US pork exports to rise by another 0.9 metric tons by 2022 — a 33 percent jump from 2012 levels.”

Other reasons include the lower cost of pork production in the U.S., and increased land and water pollution in China, due in…

Animals Fleeing Yellowstone National Park

Igor Purlantov

Reports across social media that animals are allegedly fleeing Yellowstone National Park have caused Yellowstone Volcano to trend on Google today.  The reports of animals fleeing started to surface April 2nd following a series of low level earthquakes in the world famous park March 30th. The park sits on top of the Yellowstone Caldera and Super Volcano, and although not having erupted for 640,000 years, is still an active hotspot.  For those who have never read a Super Volcano thriller (Harry Turtledove’s Super Volcano series is a good read) or studied science, there remains a real danger that the Yellowstone Caldera could explode in the future, although whether that’s tomorrow or 500,000 years from now is something science is yet to answer.

Copenhagen Zoo Kills Four Healthy Staff Members To Make Space for New Employees – April 1st 2014.

COPENHAGEN (The Global Edition) – The Copenhagen Zoo has killed several of its staff members early this morning in order to create four new job openings, the Zoo public relations sector reported.
Officials of the Zoo say that the four members of the staff were humanely executed after being put to sleep with a lethal injection, and then skinned and chopped up while visitors crowded around and the meat was fed to the lion population.
“Based on the recommendation of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP), we have decided to make space for new work positions, because the Zoo needs new workers, and we found that killing old staff members was the cheapest and the most efficient way to do it,” said Zoo spokesman Tobias Stenbaek Bro “Four of…
