“My Own Private Idaho.” You might know it as a ’90s era movie, but its new identity is being forged in the Idaho legislature right now. “My Own Private Idaho” could soon be how factory farm owners refer to their holdings–places where anything goes and no one knows–if ag-gag legislation is signed into law. But according to some, it goes far beyond undercover filming in animal agriculture settings.

GMO fact ….. for today!

It Is What It Is

~~February 22, 2014~~

GMO FACT OF THE DAY

The agrichemical companies developing GM seed often perpetuate the marketing myth that GMOs are necessary to “feed the world.” GMO corn has become one of the most widely planted crops in the U.S. since the mid-90s, of which 71% of the total grown is used for animal feed (40%) and biofuel (31%).

What we know is that GMO corn feeds cars and makes animals sick. But there isn’t a shred of evidence that GMOs help alleviate hunger anywhere.

~~Genetically modified maize~~

(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Genetically modified maize (corn) is a genetically modified plant. Specific maize strains have been genetically engineered to express agriculturally-desirable traits, including resistance to pests and to herbicides. Maize strains with both traits are now in use in multiple countries. GM maize has also caused controversy with respect to possible health effects, impact on…

Wolves are the “Ultimate Eco-Engineers”

Family Survival Protocol - Microcosm News

Mankind  in their journey to  control and  develop as far as  the eye can see have played a  significant  role  in the changes  that  have  taken place in our  environment.  The construction and restructuring  of  forests  and  natural habitats.  The  eradication  of  native wildlife species  in the never  ending  expansion of  commercial food  production and land development.

These  pursuits have endangered  many  species having been labeled  as  pests in their  eyes.  Some  have  been  eradicated  to the  brink of  extinction.  Others  have  required protection as  endangered.   Others still have had t heir  populations  explode for lack of  natural  predators.  Forcing culls  to  be organized to  keep  their  numbers in  check.

Georgia Issues New Confederate Flag License Plate

The Fifth Column

Image of the new license plate design | CREDIT: ASSOCIATED PRESS

Even with the progressive upswing in metro Atlanta, the state of Georgia still has a long way to go toward progress…

Think Progress

In Georgia, the state Department of Revenue’s Motor Vehicle Division approved of a new specialty license plate design that features the Confederate battle flag. Under state law, all license plate proposals are submitted to the Motor Vehicle division to screen out insensitive or offensive license plate designs.

This new plate design replaces an older Confederate battle flag template that began circulation in the early 2000s. But the new design, proposed by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, features a more prominent Confederate battle flag across the background, the emblem of the SOCV on the left side, and a dedication to the organization in a banner across the lower-center of the plate. While the Department of Revenue has…

Belle the hippo during the siege of Leningrad, 1943.

I hope to be remembered for my atrocities!

cQ5wDOd

“Belle survived the war thanks to her caretaker, Yevdokia Dashina. In 1941 water was turned off throughout the city and Belle’s pool was empty, so her skin began to dry out and crack. Every day, Dashina would drag a 40-liter barrel of water from the Neva river and rub the suffering hippo with camphor oil. Eventually, Belle’s skin healed and she was able to hide underwater through the air raids.” (Source)

*In this case, none of the zoo animals were eaten, but some, like Betty the elephant, died during the air strikes (sad picture warning!) Most of the cats and rats were indeed eaten, unfortunately.

*An adult hippo night should receive from 36 to 40 kg of feed. But during the blockade she ate 4-6 kg of a mixture of herbs, vegetables and press cake, adding there 30 kg filings, just to fill her stomach. (The zoo workers also shared…

Action Alert: Comment NOW On USFWS Bogus Push For National Wolf Delisting!

Howling For Justice

I can’t say this enough, we must stop USFWS from delisting wolves nationally, it will be the final nail in their coffin.  Please act now and voice your disdain over the political  “not based on the best available science” campaignthe service is waging against America’s wolves.

“This month, following a brief hiatus, arguments have reignited with the release of an independent review paper from the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis at the University of California-Santa Barbara. It finds that the delisting proposal is not, in fact, based on the “best available science.”

The review vindicates critics who say the Fish and Wildlife Service is trying to de-list the wolves prematurely, finding “problematic conclusions” in the proposal that treat contentious genetic and ecological theories as fact.

The review got at least one big result: the Fish and Wildlife Service responded by reopening its proposal to public comment

Life or Lunch?

It’s already common knowledge that cow’s milk is bad for you, but more and more people are beginning to realize that milk is even worse for the cows used in its production.

The following are 18 reasons why no one should ever drink cow’s milk.

1. Cows produce milk for the same reason why humans do―to nourish their young.

Cow with calf

2. To keep the milk flowing, cows are artificially inseminated every year.

3. Ten months later, their calves are born, and a strong bond instantly forms between them.

4. But they won’t have much time together.

5. Typically, after one to three days, their babies are taken away from them, which causes both cow and calf extreme distress.

6. They will never see each other again.
