To say that Wyoming is a conservative state probably doesn’t even begin to capture it. Republicans hold nearly every elected office, and gun ownership and hunting are as much a part of a their cherished way of life as are ranching and rodeo. Just like Sue Wallis, who was often touted as a horse industry expert despite not owning any horses, her replacement for House District 52 in Wyoming seems to have an embellished C.V. as well. Troy Mader is occasionally put forth as a “scientist” who is an expert on wolves and other species of animals, not to mention AIDS, while he appears to have completed only 1 1/2 years of university in an unknown field of study.

In her support for same-sex civil unions,  medical marijuana,  and abortion,  some of Wallis’ measures seemed at home in liberal…

Obama Administration Bans Almost All Ivory Trade

Ann Novek( Luure)--With the Sky as the Ceiling and the Heart Outdoors

In what animal conservationists hailed as a “significant milestone” in the global fight against elephant poaching, the Obama administration on Tuesday announced a ban on nearly all ivory sales in the United States.

Part of the new National Strategy on Wildlife Trafficking, the ban is intended to end a trade that threatens to wipe out the world’s largest land animal. The administration said that for the first time, vendors must prove beyond any doubt that ivory offered for sale complies with the Endangered Species Act.

Administration officials said authenticity can be established only with a permit — from the U.S. government or a foreign government — showing that the ivory was imported before a ban in 1989. Antique ivory, older than a century, is also exempted, with proof…

Wisconsin farm workers charged with animal abuse

BGTV Media Online

Published on Feb 14, 2014
RT America

Workers at a Wisconsin dairy farm are under fire for abusing animals. The four workers, who were seen on an undercover video allegedly abusing cows, have been charged with 11 counts of animal cruelty. An undercover investigator with animal rights group Mercy for Animals got a job at Wiese Brothers Farm, then used a hidden camera to catch employees in the act of stabbing, beating, kicking and otherwise abusing the farm’s cattle. Because of the footage, the farm has lost a major contract with the dairy producer for DiGiorno Pizza. RT’s Perianne Boring takes a look at the disturbing undercover footage.

Circus reveals more about human animal than circus animal

Animal Blawg

Much has been written about circus animal exploitation, and those who care to know, do know. We know about the trauma of capture and separation. The abusive training. The extreme confinement in trailers, cages, and chains–lives so impoverished that animals lose their minds. And the fruit of that suffering: brief minutes in the ring where defeated animals perform unnatural, coerced acts for cheering throngs. We know about the suffering when things go as planned, and the suffering when things go awry.

But this piece is about the other animal–the one who wields the whip and bullhook. The animal who clutches kids with one hand and circus tickets with the other. The animal who profits off the misery of “lesser” beings in the name of charity. In short, the animal who determines the fate of all others.

Please click HERE to take action

PETA has just learned that a strawberry farm in Florida is teaming up with infamous exhibitor Hugo “Tommy” Liebel to host rides featuring the suffering elephant Nosey (aka “Tiny”) this weekend, despite abundant evidence of Liebel’s decades-long neglect of her. Please join PETA in urging Oak Haven Farms & Winery in Sorrento, Florida, to cancel the rides immediately.

Last year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture ordered Liebel to pay a penalty to settle nearly three dozen charges of violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act, most of them related to his mistreatment of Nosey, including repeatedly chaining her so tightly that she could barely move and denying her necessary veterinary care. Click here to learn more about Liebel’s unrelenting neglect of Nosey’s health and well-being.

Please urge Oak Haven Farms & Winery to make the prudent and compassionate decision to cancel the rides on…

End all use of dogs on wildlife.

Petition to The Wisconsin legislature and Natural Resources Board of Wisconsin: End all use of dogs on wildlife.

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/The_Wisconsin_legislature_and_Natural_Resources_Board_of_Wisconsin_End_all_use_of_dogs_on_wildlife/?fbdm

Posted February 13, 2014

Why this is important

Wisconsin coyotes, wolves, bears, bobcats, raccoons, foxes and all wildlife are being run by packs of dogs and mobs of armed men for killing recreation year-round. Since coyotes can be killed without reporting, any time day or night, statewide, year-round, all wildlife is on the move, terrorized and killed randomly. Dogs used as weapons is cruel to the dogs, wildlife, and to children taught this is fun. Please help us get dogs out of hunting. They are set against trapped animals who cannot defend themselves. No one can defend themselves against armed men and dogs and traps in combination.

Video Gallery: Cruelty Uncovered At Korean ‘Monkey School’

STOP ANIMAL ABUSE

“This is just disgusting & so very cruel! Using animals for entertainment should be banned all over the world; seeing this just breaks my heart. Please watch the videos below; then sign the petition!”

Updated: 14 February 2014

An investigation by ADI into a Korean “attraction” that forces monkeys to perform in degrading shows has revealed shocking conditions behind the scenes.
At the Monkey School, which is located in Gamgyori in South Korea, ADI found:

  • Monkeys kept in squalid and barren conditions, including mothers and their young babies
  • Traumatized animals exhibiting abnormal behaviour, such as constantly spinning around and biting themselves
  • Some monkeys isolated in tiny cages, others crammed together
  • Animals hit during training and dragged along the floor
  • Disgraceful contempt for a monkey as it tries to escape with its hands tied behind its back, falling onto its face, as workers laugh at its predicament and terror

More Chinese Lies: China Denies All Involvement In Rhino And Elephant Poaching Crisis

Ann Novek( Luure)--With the Sky as the Ceiling and the Heart Outdoors

The Chinese Government has denied claims of fuelling elephant and rhino deaths saying it was committed to helping Kenya increase its tourism revenue by supporting local wildlife conservation.

The Chinese Embassy chancellor, Mr Z. Cao blamed Western and African media of tarnishing his country’s name by claiming China provided a ready market for ivory and horn.

Speaking during a joint press conference with Narok County governor Samuel Tunai at Keekorok Lodge in Maasai Mara Game Reserve over the weekend, Mr Cao said all Chinese nationals visiting Kenya will from now on receive short text message alerts warning them against engaging in illegal wildlife trade.

“There are stringent penalties on wildlife crime introduced by various countries aimed at stopping carnage within wildlife sanctuaries of elephants and rhinos. Perpetrators of ivory trade and its products get up to life imprisonment,” he added.

Mr Cao was part of a powerful delegation including the…

Save Wildlife And Elephants From Chinese Ivory Trade, Otherwise We Will Lose All Elephants

Joyce Poole, a world authority on elephants, has warned that Chinese demand for ivory is driving the worst poaching in history, with more than 7 per cent of the world’s elephants killed for their tusks in the space of a year. Photo: SCMP

More than 7 per cent of the world’s elephants were killed for their tusks in the space of a year – the “worst in history”, according to one researcher.

And with over 40 per cent of the ivory haul bound for China, the biggest market for tusks, Joyce Poole, co-director of conservation group Elephant Voices, is urging Beijing to step in and ban the trade.

“It’s either China does something, or we lose the elephants. It’s that big,” Poole said. “If we can’t even save the elephants – such an iconic keystone animal, important to the African habitat – then what hope do we have?”

EIA: Why Don’t Any Gov’t Or NGO Demand That China Bans Domestic Ivory Trade?

Ann Novek( Luure)--With the Sky as the Ceiling and the Heart Outdoors

Given that the elephant poaching crisis was at the forefront of the minds of all at the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES as never before, what was actually done by CITES to stop the killing of elephants across Africa?

The actual outcome was far short of what was expected and, indeed, what was needed to secure the fate of elephants.

SEO Tip – Tags And Categories On WordPress.com

Don Charisma

You’d have thought I’d know this already, but I didn’t … doh !

I was doing some research into the most popular tags used. I found a WordPress support page that states that your posts will not go into the reader if they have more than 15 keywords (tags + categories). I’d been working on the assumption that more was better … appears not …

Check this out – http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/

I’ve also realised that it’s largely pointless to put a post in category called “photography” and tag it with “photography”. One or the other. The reason for this is that the reader uses both tags and categories. Having said this you might still want to tag it as “photo”, “photos” and “photograph” for maximum exposure in the reader. As far as I can make out these are all considered to be different in the reader.

Other useful advice that I…
